An exponential filter model predicts lightness illusions

open access: yesFrontiers in Human Neuroscience, 2015
Lightness, or perceived reflectance of a surface, is influenced by surrounding context. This is demonstrated by the Simultaneous Contrast Illusion (SCI), where a grey patch is perceived lighter against a black background and vice versa.

Circular RNA expression landscapes in myelodysplastic neoplasms: Associations with mutational signatures and disease progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this explorative study, the abundance of circular RNA molecules in bone marrow stem cells was found to be elevated in patients with high‐risk myelodysplastic neoplasms, and to be associated with an increased risk of progression to acute myeloid leukemia.

Current-mode Universal Filter using Fin type Field Effect Transistor (FinFET) Transistor-Based Multioutput Current Controlled Current Conveyor Transconductance Amplifiers

open access: yesGazi Üniversitesi Fen Bilimleri Dergisi
For single digit nanometric dimensions, the fin type Field Effect Transistor (FinFET) transistor is a promising technology. FinFETs are utilized to reduce power consumption and boost performance since the two gate voltages may be regulated independently ...

Use of Mutual Coupling to Decrease Parasitic Inductance of Shunt Capacitor Filters [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
In this paper, we propose and study several new designs of a shunt capacitor filter with two surface-mount technology capacitors. These designs make use of mutual inductance effects to increase the attenuation provided by the filter in the range of high ...

Colorectal cancer‐derived FGF19 is a metabolically active serum biomarker that exerts enteroendocrine effects on mouse liver

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Meta‐transcriptome analysis identified FGF19 as a peptide enteroendocrine hormone associated with colorectal cancer prognosis. In vivo xenograft models showed release of FGF19 into the blood at levels that correlated with tumor volumes. Tumoral‐FGF19 altered murine liver metabolism through FGFR4, thereby reducing bile acid synthesis and increasing ...

The Effectiveness of a Contact Filter for the Removal of Iron from Ground Water [PDF]

open access: yes, 1971
Various types of modified filters were investigated to replace greensand filters which clogged when removing ground water. A properly designed uniform-grain sized filter can increase the filtration time more than ten times that of ordinary sand or ...

A plasmonic nanoantenna based triggered single photon source

open access: yes, 2016
Highly integrated single photon sources are key components in future quantum-optical circuits. Whereas the probabilistic generation of single photons can routinely be done by now, their triggered generation is a much greater challenge.

Structured filtering

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2017
A major challenge facing existing sequential Monte-Carlo methods for parameter estimation in physics stems from the inability of existing approaches to robustly deal with experiments that have different mechanisms that yield the results with equivalent probability. We address this problem here by proposing a form of particle filtering that clusters the

Identification of serum protein biomarkers for pre‐cancerous lesions associated with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This work identified serum proteins associated with pancreatic epithelial neoplasms (PanINs) and early‐stage PDAC. Proteomics screens assessed genetically engineered mice with abundant PanINs, KPC mice (Lox‐STOP‐Lox‐KrasG12D/+ Lox‐STOP‐Lox‐Trp53R172H/+ Pdx1‐Cre) before PDAC development and also early‐stage PDAC patients (n = 31), compared to benign ...

Transient Electromagnetic Signal Filtering Method Based on Intelligent Optimized Time-Space Fractional-Order Diffusion Equation

open access: yesIEEE Access
To filter out noise in transient electromagnetic (TEM) signals, a Time-Space Fractional-order Diffusion Model (TSFDM) based on intelligent optimization is proposed.
