Rugate filter theory: an overview

Optical Interference Coatings, 1992
The need for optical coatings fulfilling stringent optical and physical requirements has renewed a formerly existing interest in variable refractive index thin films also called “rugate filters”. Rugate filters are fascinating and challenging both theoretically and experimentally. This presentation will focus on their theory.

Distortion-Rate Theory and Filtering

1980
The constraint of realizability is introduced and with it the Distortion Rate Function is redefined. For the Orenstein Uhlenbeck process, the constrained Distortion Rate function is shown to satisfy a dynamic programming equation. Further, a filtering problem is shown to be equivalent to determination of the constrained distortion rate function.

Filters in fuzzy class theory

Fuzzy Sets and Systems, 2008
Graded properties are a natural tool in connection with graded membership or truth degrees. The author considers here the basic notions and ideas of filter theory and generalizes them, in a natural way, using the formal background of fuzzy class theory as conceived by \textit{L. Běhounek} and \textit{P. Cintula} [Fuzzy Sets Syst.

A Unified Theory for Steerable and Quadrature Filters

2007
In this paper, a complete theory of steerable filters is presented which shows that quadrature filters are only a special case of steerable filters. Although there has been a large number of approaches dealing with the theory of steerable filters, none of these gives a complete theory with respect to the transformation groups which deform the filter ...

Modal Aggregation and the Theory of Paraconsistent Filters

Mathematical Logic Quarterly, 1996
AbstractThis paper articulates the structure of a two species of weakly aggregative necessity in a common idiom, neighbourhood semantics, using the notion of a k‐filter of propositions. A k‐filter on a non‐empty set I is a collection of subsets of I which (i) contains I, (ii) is closed under supersets on I, and (iii) contains ∪{Xi ≤ Xj : 0 ≤ i < j ≤

A General Theory of Electric Wave Filters

Journal of Mathematics and Physics, 1934
The growth of the field of electric wave filters since their original discovery by Dr. G. A. Campbell shows the filtering action by no means inheres in any particular ph ysical configuration. Filters have been built, for example, as recurrent or non-recurrent ladder structures, as lattices, as bridged-T's, and in a variety of combinations of ...

Measurements and Filtering Theory

2002
We consider the following problem: a field interacts with a system S and after this interaction no direct measurement is made on S, but one extracts information on S by measuring the field before (input) and after (output) the interaction. For example, in the case of an atom which decays emitting radiation, if one knows its initial state and detects ...
