Antibodies against the Ag2 fimbriae of Actinomyces viscosus T14V inhibit lactose-sensitive bacterial adherence [PDF]
Monospecific antisera against the Ag1 and Ag2 fimbrial components of Actinomyces viscosus T14V were produced by immunizing rabbits with immune precipitates of each antigen harvested from crossed-immunoelectrophoresis plates. The Fab fragments prepared from these sera were used as specific reagents in immunoelectron microscopy to identify each fimbrial ...

The Oral‐Gut Axis: Bidirectional Interactions Between Microbiome and Diseases
This study aims to summarize the mechanisms underlying ectopic colonization of the gut by oral pathobionts and the microbial and host factors that regulate this process. ABSTRACT Increased colonization of typically oral microorganisms is frequently observed in the gut mucosa or lumen of individuals with gastrointestinal disorders, including patients ...

Osteoporosis and Periodontitis: Two‐Way Epidemiological and Mechanistic Evidence
This review investigates the main mechanistic pathways connecting local periodontitis to systemic osteoporosis. Seven interconnected mechanisms are identified. ABSTRACT Osteoporosis and periodontitis are highly prevalent, chronic inflammatory diseases that constitute a major global health burden.

Chimeric FimH adhesin of type 1 fimbriae: a bacterial surface display system for heterologous sequences [PDF]
The FimH adhesin of type 1 fimbriae has been tested as a display system for heterologous protein segments on the surface of Escherichia coli. This was carried out by introduction of restriction site handles (BglII sites) in two different positions in the fimH gene, followed by in-frame insertion of heterologous DNA segments encoding two reporter ...

Diverse Microbial Communities Assemble on Both Recalcitrant and Labile Carbon Sources
Taxonomically and functionally distinct communities assemble on cellulose and its monomer, glucose. Although single carbon sources were provided, high and comparable diversity was maintained in both environments, supported by extensive cross‐feeding and scavenging. However, glucose supported higher biomass than cellulose and selected generalists, while

Effective assembly of fimbriae in Escherichia coli depends on the translocation assembly module nanomachine [PDF]
Outer membrane proteins are essential for Gram-negative bacteria to rapidly adapt to changes in their environment. Intricate remodelling of the outer membrane proteome is critical for bacterial pathogens to survive environmental changes, such as entry ...

Type 3 fimbriae of Klebsiella sp.: molecular characterization and role in bacterial adhesion to plant roots [PDF]
Type 3 fimbriae of Klebsiella were purified and characterized. The fimbriae were 4 to 5 nm in diameter and 0.5 to 2 microns long. In sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, the fimbrillin had an apparent molecular weight of 23,500, and it differed from enterobacterial type 1 fimbrillins in its amino acid composition.
