Effects of finger millet innovations on productivity in Kenya

open access: yesCogent Food & Agriculture, 2020
Finger millet is an underutilized cereal crop grown in some parts of semi-arid lands in Kenya. Its productivity could be critical in diversifying household nutrition and incomes among resource-constrained farmers in these marginalized areas.

Past, present and future of local crop evolution

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Promoting agrobiodiversity is a promising strategy for mitigating the negative effects of climate change on global food security. We highlight the central role evolutionary processes play in harnessing the potential of local crops by integrating genomics, archaeology, ethnobotany and traditional ecological knowledge (TEK).

A national crop wild relative checklist for Zimbabwe reveals edible crop wild relative diversity of regional and global importance

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Crop wild relatives (CWR) in Zimbabwe are reservoirs of beneficial agronomic traits, yet they remain under‐documented and poorly conserved. This study developed Zimbabwe's first national CWR checklist based on a conceptual framework combining floristic, ecological and ethnobotanical data, revealing over 2700 taxa, with nearly 1000 edible species ...

Crop diversification strategies for yield enhancement in finger millet-based cropping systems

open access: yesFrontiers in Agronomy
Indian agriculture is confronted with a multitude of sustainability challenges, including the impacts of climate change, inefficiencies in input usage, depletion of natural resources, soil degradation, excessive energy consumption, and various ...

Using art history to explore society's changing connections with agriculture

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Food insecurity is a looming challenge that especially affects those least fortunate. Consumer food choices have a substantial impact on the sustainability of current food systems. Here, we use art as a lens through which to consider our contemporary and historical relationship to one of the world's most crucial crops, the potato, in the context of the

Plant responses to iron nutrition with emphasis on the underutilized crop tef (Eragrostis tef): A review

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Iron (Fe) deficiency limits the physical health, cognitive development, and economic output of billions of people globally, especially children and productive‐age women. Tef is an underutilized and stress‐resilient crop, which is becoming popular for its grains containing high bioavailable Fe and has the potential to mitigate Fe deficiency.

Stable expression of mtlD gene imparts multiple stress tolerance in finger millet.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Finger millet is susceptible to abiotic stresses, especially drought and salinity stress, in the field during seed germination and early stages of seedling development. Therefore developing stress tolerant finger millet plants combating drought, salinity

Sonified Signals From a Compact FT‐ICR Instrument: A Feasibility Study. I—Data Mapping to an Equal‐Tempered Chromatic Scale

open access: yesRapid Communications in Mass Spectrometry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Rationale Ions trapped within a Penning cell (ICR) travel periodic orbits whose frequencies are dependent on their mass‐to‐charge ratio and the value of the magnetic field passing through the trap. Fourier transformation (FT‐ICR) decomposes the signal induced in the detection circuit by the rotation of the ions in the cell after the ...
