Finite time convergent observers for nonlinear systems

42nd IEEE International Conference on Decision and Control (IEEE Cat. No.03CH37475), 2004
In this note we consider the state estimation problem for nonlinear systems. In a first step we outline the design of an observer for single output nonlinear systems in observer normal form. The estimate of this observer converges to the exact system state within predefined finite time.

Finite time observers and observability

29th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, 1990
A notion of finite time observer for partially observed deterministic control systems is introduced. The observer dynamics are given by a Hamilton-Jacobi equation, and the observer is consistent under a natural observability condition. An observability grammian for nonlinear systems is introduced, and is used to study the time evolution of sets of ...

A continuous-time observer which converges in finite time

IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, 2002
It is shown that a continuous-time observer, which comprises two standard nth order observers and a delay D, can observe the state of an nth order linear system in finite time D exactly. In particular, (almost) any convergence time D can be assigned, independent of the observer eigenvalues.

Robust finite time observer design for multicellular converters

International Journal of Systems Science, 2011
In this article, a nonlinear finite time observer is designed for multicellular converters. The aim is to estimate the capacitor voltages by taking into account the hybrid behaviour of the converter. This article extends the validity of the strong Lyapunov function, proposed in Moreno and Osorio (Moreno, J., and Osorio, M.

A Finite-Time Stable Observer for Relative Attitude Estimation

2019 IEEE 58th Conference on Decision and Control (CDC), 2019
Relative motion estimation of one rigid body with respect to another is a problem that has immediate applications to formations and maneuvers involving multiple unmanned vehicles or collision avoidance between vehicles. A finite-time stable observer for relative attitude estimation of a rigid object using onboard sensors on an unmanned vehicle, is ...

Multivalued finite-time observers for a class of nonlinear systems

2017 IEEE 56th Annual Conference on Decision and Control (CDC), 2017
We consider a class of nonlinear systems which are not observable, and can have a finite number of indistinguishable trajectories. In general, this implies that a single-valued observer does not exist. In this paper we propose the construction of a multivalued observer, which is able to estimate the full set of indistinguishable trajectories. Moreover,

Finite-time observer for nonlinear dynamic systems

1973 IEEE Conference on Decision and Control including the 12th Symposium on Adaptive Processes, 1973
This paper introduces finite-time observers for a class of non-linear dynamic systems. The concept of observability is first shown to be a necessary condition for the existence of a finite-time observer for the system. Then a finite-time observer for an important class of systems is constructed with a novel structure which avoids the use of ...

An Adaptive Finite Time Sliding Mode Observer [PDF]

open access: possible, 2017
This chapter develops a novel adaptive ?nite time observer which can achieve ?nite time unmatched parameter estimation and ?nite time system state observation. The proposed approach has strong robustness and rapid convergence. A step by step proof is given which employs ?nite time stability and sliding mode principles.

Global finite-time observers for a class of nonlinear systems

Kybernetika, 2013
Summary: Global finite-time observers are designed for a class of nonlinear systems with bounded varying rational powers imposed on the increments of the nonlinearities whose solutions exist and are unique for all positive time. The global finite-time observers designed in this paper have two homogeneous terms. The global finite-time convergence of the
