Absorption Spectrum of the Firefly Luciferin Anion Isolated in Vacuo

The Journal of Physical Chemistry A, 2011
The excited-state physics of the firefly luciferin anion depends on its chemical environment, and it is therefore important to establish the intrinsic behavior of the bare ion. Here we report electronic absorption spectra of the anion isolated in vacuo obtained at an electrostatic ion storage ring and an accelerator mass spectrometer where ionic ...

Important Site of Luciferin on Firefly Bioluminescence

ECS Transactions, 2008
The firefly bioluminescence is well known in the world. Although its emission efficiency is assumed the best of the earth, a color variation is aspired in top science. For producing color variation, we have innovated new technology by analyzing biofunctions.

Sulfoluciferin is Biosynthesized by a Specialized Luciferin Sulfotransferase in Fireflies

Biochemistry, 2016
Firefly luciferin is a specialized metabolite restricted to fireflies (family Lampyridae) and other select families of beetles (order Coleoptera). Firefly luciferin undergoes luciferase-catalyzed oxidation to produce light, thereby enabling the luminous mating signals essential for reproductive success in most bioluminescent beetles.

Cage the firefly luciferin! – a strategy for developing bioluminescent probes

Chem. Soc. Rev., 2013
Bioluminescent imaging (BLI) has been widely applicable in the imaging of process envisioned in life sciences. As the most conventional technique for BLI, the firefly luciferin-luciferase system is exceptionally functional in vitro and in vivo.

Firefly luciferase exhibits bimodal action depending on the luciferin chirality

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2005
Firefly luciferase is able to convert L-luciferin into luciferyl-CoA even under ordinary aerobic luciferin-luciferase reaction conditions. The luciferase is able to recognize strictly the chirality of the luciferin structure, serving as the acyl-CoA synthetase for L-luciferin, whereas d-luciferin is used for the bioluminescence reaction.

[2] Synthesis of firefly luciferin and structural analogs

1978
Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the synthesis of firefly luciferin. The structure of luciferin (LH 2 ) and two useful structural analogs, dehydroluciferin (L) and dehydroluciferol (LOH) are described in the chapter. Owing to the lability of the thiazoline portion of the luciferin molecule, synthetic approaches have generally involved the ...
