A Modified Rational Method Approach for Calculating First Flush Design Flow Rates to Mitigate Nonpoint Source Pollution from Stormwater Runoff

open access: yesHydrology
Mitigating nonpoint source pollution from stormwater runoff demands effective strategies for treating the first flush depth. Whether through off-stream storage or pass-through treatment devices, designing diversion structures and filtering materials is ...

Screening and Evaluation of Essential Oils from Mediterranean Aromatic Plants against the Mushroom Cobweb Disease, Cladobotryum mycophilum [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The main aim of this study was to evaluate the use of essential oils (EOs) as an alternative to synthetic fungicides used in the control of cobweb disease of button mushroom (Agaricus bisporus) caused by Cladobotryum mycophilum.

Planning Graph Heuristics for Belief Space Search

open access: yes, 2011
Some recent works in conditional planning have proposed reachability heuristics to improve planner scalability, but many lack a formal description of the properties of their distance estimates.

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Research on the Time Course of River Water Quality with Runoff in Urban Area

open access: yesRenmin Zhujiang, 2020
Deterioration of river water quality during rainfall is a difficult problem for water environment treatment, and it is of great significance to study its change rules during rainfall.Taking the canal area of Guangzhou-Shenzhen Railway in Guangzhou Liede ...

Water Quality and the First-Flush Effect in Roof-Based Rainwater Harvesting, Part II: First Flush

open access: yesWater
Rainwater runoff samples from a range of roofing materials were temporally collected from 19 small-scale roof structures and two commercial buildings through simulated and actual storm events, and the concentrations of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), phosphorus flame retardants (PFLs), and pyrethroid insecticides and other water quality ...

Numerical study of jet impingement cooling on a smooth curve surface [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Impinging jets are a best method of achieving particularly high heat transfer coefficient and are therefore employed in many engineering applications.

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.
