Characterisation of First Flush for Rainwater Harvesting Purposes in Buildings

open access: yes
The objective of this research was to assess the first flush of rainwater harvested from a fibre–cement roof in southern Brazil. Runoff samples were collected for quantifying pH, total suspended solids, turbidity, conductivity, apparent colour ...

First Flush Occurrence Prediction and Ranking of Its Influential Variables in Urban Watersheds: Evaluation of XGBoost and SHAP Techniques

open access: yes, 2022
In the last decades, the quality of the surface-water bodies has been increasingly threatened mainly due to anthropogenic activities (i.e., urbanization and the consequent increase of impervious surfaces). This leads to the generation of runoff even more

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

Research on the Time Course of River Water Quality with Runoff in Urban Area

open access: yesRenmin Zhujiang, 2020
Deterioration of river water quality during rainfall is a difficult problem for water environment treatment, and it is of great significance to study its change rules during rainfall.Taking the canal area of Guangzhou-Shenzhen Railway in Guangzhou Liede ...

The ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy as guardians of the cellular proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This Perspective covers the three principles governing the crosstalk between the ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy in cellular proteostasis: (1) a shared ubiquitin code routing substrates via shuttle factors or autophagy receptors; (2) spatial compartmentalization into phase‐separated degradation hubs and organelle‐specific modules (exemplified

Occurrence and ecological risk of PAHs in urban road runoff in Beijing

open access: yesWater Science and Technology
The occurrence and ecological risks of 16 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in different types of urban road runoff in Beijing during two typical rainfall events were studied.

An unexpected alternative viologen electron mediator site in tungsten‐containing formate dehydrogenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...
