The potential contribution of riparian vegetation in non-point source pollution control during rainfall events in a tropical urban watershed [PDF]
The presence of riparian vegetation can reduce the transport of sediments into receiving water bodies from surface runoff during rainfall events. However, this process is still overlooked in tropical watersheds, limiting the capacity of managers and ...

Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Efficient simulation of view synchrony [PDF]
This report presents an algorithm for efficiently simulating view synchrony, including failure-atomic total-order multicast in a discrete-time event simulator. In this report we show how a view synchrony implementation tailored to a simulated environment

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Water Quality and the First-Flush Effect in Roof-Based Rainwater Harvesting, Part II: First Flush
Rainwater runoff samples from a range of roofing materials were temporally collected from 19 small-scale roof structures and two commercial buildings through simulated and actual storm events, and the concentrations of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), phosphorus flame retardants (PFLs), and pyrethroid insecticides and other water quality ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Research on the Time Course of River Water Quality with Runoff in Urban Area
Deterioration of river water quality during rainfall is a difficult problem for water environment treatment, and it is of great significance to study its change rules during rainfall.Taking the canal area of Guangzhou-Shenzhen Railway in Guangzhou Liede ...
