New first order shear deformation beam theory with in-plane shear influence
Engineering Structures, 2016In the conventional formulation of the Timoshenko beam theory bending and shear deflection cannot be determined uniquely. Recently, an alternative formulation which deals with total deflection and bending deflection has been developed with unique results.

An accurate modeling of piezoelectric smart beams with first-order shear deformation theory
International Journal of Modeling, Simulation, and Scientific Computing, 2015A finite element model for piezoelectric smart beam in extension mode based on First-order Shear Deformation Theory (FSDT) with an appropriate through-thickness distribution of electric potential is presented. Accuracy of piezoelectric finite element formulations depends on the selection of assumed mechanical and electrical fields.

Enhanced First-Order Shear Deformation Theory for Laminated and Sandwich Plates
Journal of Applied Mechanics, 2005A new first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT) has been developed and verified for laminated plates and sandwich plates. Based on the definition of Reissener–Mindlin’s plate theory, the average transverse shear strains, which are constant through the thickness, are improved to vary through the thickness.

A simple first-order shear deformation theory for laminated composite plates
Composite Structures, 2013Abstract In this paper, a simple first-order shear deformation theory is presented for laminated composite plates. Unlike the existing first-order shear deformation theory, the present one contains only four unknowns and has strong similarities with the classical plate theory in many aspects such as equations of motion, boundary conditions, and ...

Behaviour of plate elements based on the first‐order shear deformation theory
Engineering Computations, 1990A study of the behaviour of shear deformable plate finite elements is carried out to determine why and under what conditions these elements lock, or become overly stiff. A new analytical technique is developed to derive the exact form of the shear constraints which are imposed on an element when its side‐to‐thickness ratio is large. The constraints are

A novel first-order shear deformation theory for laminated composite plates
Steel and Composite Structures, 2014In the present study, a new simple first-order shear deformation theory is presented for laminated composite plates. Moreover, the number of unknowns of this theory is the least one comparing with the traditional first-order and the other higher-order shear deformation theories.

Refined First-Order Shear Deformation Theory Models for Composite Laminates
Journal of Applied Mechanics, 2003In the present work, new mixed variational formulations for a first-order shear deformation laminate theory are proposed. The out-of-plane stresses are considered as primary variables of the problem. In particular, the shear stress profile is represented either by independent piecewise quadratic functions in the thickness or by satisfying the three ...

This paper mainly presents free vibration analysis of an isotropic thin plate using first order shear deformation theory. This analysis has been held for four types of aluminium (Al) alloys namely Al 95, Al 96, Al 98 and Al 995. The stiffness and mass matrices are calculated using first order shear deformation theory for two varying thicknesses of the ...

On the refined first-order shear deformation plate theory of Kármán type
Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, 2000A large deflection theory for laminated plates is set up taking into account transverse shear rotations. Each shear strain component is assumed to depend on the corresponding shear force only, and the shear correction factors are set equal for both directions.
