Seasonal variability in the biological characteristics and environmental factors of Sardina pilchardus stock along the eastern Egyptian Mediterranean coast using in-situ and remote sensing techniques

open access: yesScientific African
The eastern Mediterranean Sea, particularly along the Egyptian coast, hosts ecologically and economically significant fish stocks that are vulnerable to environmental variability and fishing pressures.

The Effects of Different Feeding Regimes on Body Composition, Gut Microbial Population, and Susceptibility to Pathogenic Infection in Largemouth Bass

open access: yesMicroorganisms, 2023
This study investigated the effects of dietary commercial feed (n = 50,025 in triplicate, named group PF for soil dike pond, sampling n = 7; n = 15,000 in triplicate, WF for water tank, n = 8), iced fish (n = 50,025 in triplicate, PI, n = 7), and a ...

Sudden anaerobization in Amphibacillus xylanus increases intracellular labile ferrous iron and inhibits cell growth

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Abruptly changing from aerobic to anaerobic conditions (sudden anaerobization) induced growth inhibition and a significant increase in intracellular labile ferrous iron in the aerotolerant anaerobe Amphibacillus xylanus. We found that free flavins mediate efficient electron transfer from NADH to ferric iron under anaerobic conditions, suggesting that ...

Creep Properties and Deformation Mechanism of Additively Manufactured NiAl‐CrMo Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additively manufactured NiAl‐CrMo composites contain numerous interfaces and cell boundaries that control their creep response. At 700°C under high applied stress, creep is dominated by dislocation‐controlled power‐law mechanisms. At 800°C–900°C and lower stresses, creep is primarily diffusion‐controlled along cell boundaries.

Full-Length Transcriptomes and Sex-Based Differentially Expressed Genes in the Brain and Ganglia of Giant River Prawn Macrobrachium rosenbergii

open access: yesBiomolecules, 2023
Macrobrachium rosenbergii is an important aquaculture prawn that exhibits sexual dimorphism in growth, with males growing much faster than females. However, the mechanisms controlling these complex traits are not well understood. The nervous system plays

Keynote address on production, utilization and marketing in fisheries status and opportunities [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
Fish production from Nigeria comes mainly from 3 sources, namely - artisans engaged in either part-time or full-time fishing, commercial trawlers fishing in inshore and offshore waters, and fish farming in enclosures (ponds, tanks and raceways).

DNA‐Templated 2D Heterostructures as Phototriggered Dynamic Nanohybrids: From Releasing Molecular Loads to Controlling Enzyme Biocatalytic Function

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
DNA strands are employed both as dynamic linkers and nanoscale templates for the integration of Ag2S nanoparticles on MoS2, which in turn imparted photothermal responsiveness; this feature permits the selective cargo (fluorophore, quantum dots or an enzyme) release from the MoS2 surface in response to local heat induced by light irradiation.

Effects of prometryn on oxidative stress, immune response and apoptosis in the hepatopancreas of Eriocheir sinensis (Crustacea: Decapoda)

open access: yesEcotoxicology and Environmental Safety, 2023
Prometryn, a triazine pesticide product used to control weed growth, poses a high risk to aquatic organisms in the environment. Several toxicological evaluations have been performed on bony fish and shrimp exposed to prometryn.
