Multiomics Reveals the Molecular Mechanism of Collagen Synthesis by Hydrolyzed Collagen Supplementation of Large Yellow Croaker (Larimichthys crocea)

open access: yesAquaculture Nutrition
This study investigated the effects of dietary hydrolyzed collagen supplementation on muscle quality and its underlying molecular mechanisms in large yellow croaker (Larimichthys crocea) (initial weight: 332.27 ± 3.79 g) over a 128-day feeding trial. The

Control of zootechnology leads to improved Cuttlefish (Sepia officinalis, L.) reproduction performance up to pre-industrial levels [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Cephalopods are gaining momentum as an alternate group for aquaculture species diversification, not only because they are a good food source (highly appreciated in some worldwide markets) but they also have the potential to quickly reach a market size ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Implications of fisheries during the spawning season for the sustainable management and recovery of depleted fish stocks: life history characteristics of several North Sea species [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Fish traders and NGOs have put the idea forward that in order to not disturb the spawning process and hence improve the reproductive success of a fish population one should stop fishing during the spawning period.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Full-length transcriptome reveals rapid genetic changes in triploid hybrid grass carp derived from female grass carp × male topmouth culter

open access: yesReproduction and Breeding, 2023
Distant hybridization refers to the combination of different genomes from different species and further leads to genetic structure changes in hybrids. For next-generation sequencing limitations, the genetic changes with respect to hybrids or polyploids ...

An unexpected alternative viologen electron mediator site in tungsten‐containing formate dehydrogenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...

Chromatin-mediated mechanisms of hybrid fertility in F1 male hybrids of Culter alburnus and Megalobrama amblycephala

open access: yesBMC Biology
Background Interspecific hybridization is a fundamental evolutionary process, yet it often results in male sterility due to genomic incompatibilities and disrupted epigenetic regulation.

Effects of Nano-Silver Exposure on Oxidative Stress, Transcriptome, and Intestinal Microbiota of Procambarus clarkii

open access: yesBiology
There is limited understanding regarding the potential toxicity of nano-silver to crayfish. This study aims to evaluate the histopathological changes, oxidative stress, transcriptomics, and intestinal microbiota changes in different tissues of crayfish ...
