Influence of Phytogenic Additives on Growth Parameters and Meat Biochemistry in Cyprinus carpio

open access: yesScientific Papers Animal Science and Biotechnologies, 2023
Over time, antibiotics have been used in aquaculture to control fish diseases. Improper and sometimes unjustified use of them has raised concerns about their effectiveness and the possibility of resistant bacterial strains development.

Management of inland capture fisheries and challenges in fish production in Nigeria [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The paper critically examines the trend in fish production in Nigeria. The problem of excessive mismanagement and lack of attention by relevant agencies are still common place in inland water bodies.

Linked dimers of the AAA+ ATPase Msp1 reveal energetic demands and mechanistic plasticity for substrate extraction from lipid bilayers

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells must clear mislocalized or faulty proteins from membranes to survive. The AAA+ ATPase Msp1 performs this task, but dissecting how its six subunits work together is challenging. We engineered linked dimers with varied numbers of functional subunits to reveal how Msp1 subunits cooperate and use energy to extract proteins from the lipid bilayer ...

Biochemical Composition of Indigenous and Imported Trout and Salmon

open access: yesScientific Papers Animal Science and Biotechnologies, 2023
As wild fish are a finite resource, the role of aquaculture in providing the necessary fish per capita is becoming increasingly important. Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) and rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) are species of interest to Romanians, rich ...

Illegal Fishing, Your Number's Up! [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Unlike merchant vessels, automobiles, and even cellphones, fishing vessels are not required to have unique identifying numbers that stay with them from construction to scrapping.

Behavior Change Interventions to Reduce Illegal Fishing

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2018
Illegal fishing is a serious problem that threatens the sustainability of fisheries around the world. Historically, policy makers and fishery managers have relied on the “deterrence model” to alleviate it.

CCT4 promotes tunneling nanotube formation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Tunneling nanotubes (TNTs) are membranous tunnel‐like structures that transport molecules and organelles between cells. They vary in thickness, and thick nanotubes often contain microtubules in addition to actin fibers. We found that cells expressing monomeric CCT4 generate many thick TNTs with tubulin.

A large‐scale retrospective study in metastatic breast cancer patients using circulating tumour DNA and machine learning to predict treatment outcome and progression‐free survival

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
There is an unmet need in metastatic breast cancer patients to monitor therapy response in real time. In this study, we show how a noninvasive and affordable strategy based on sequencing of plasma samples with longitudinal tracking of tumour fraction paired with a statistical model provides valuable information on treatment response in advance of the ...

Examining the Tragedy of the Commons Dilemma: Looking at the New Hampshire Fishing Industry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The Tragedy of the Commons is a widely known problem debated amongst economists for years. Even the topic of the Tragedy of the Commons when applied to fishing has been debated several times.
