Flame acceleration due to flame-induced instabilities in large-scale explosions
Combustion and Flame, 2001Large-scale explosions of initially quiescent methane-air and propane-air mixtures at atmospheric pressure are reported, in which the flame speed of a hemispherical flame is measured up to radii just beyond 3 m. A cellular flame is developed fairly soon and thereafter the flame speed increases continually with the square root of the time.

Ignition and Flame Studies for an Accelerating Transonic Mixing Layer
Journal of Propulsion and Power, 2000Numerical solutions have been obtained for a diffusion e ame in the two-dimensional, laminar, steady, viscous, multicomponent, compressible mixing layer in the presence of a pressure gradient by using the boundary-layer approximationsand solvingthe x-momentum,energy,and speciesconservation equations.

Flame acceleration and DDT in gas explosions
Journal de Physique IV (Proceedings), 2002A qualitative description of flame acceleration (FA) process is presented, which shows a complexity of the processes that can follow a weak ignition in a combustible mixture. Considering the exclusive role of the confinement and obstructions, the main focus is made on the processes of FA and DDT typical for areas with strong confinement and heavy ...

Flame acceleration and explosion safety applications
Proceedings of the Combustion Institute, 2011Abstract Accidental explosions of flammable gases and reactive gas mixtures remain a significant concern in process industries. The present paper reviews the basic mechanism of Flame Acceleration (FA), the results of recent studies on FA, and their application to explosion safety.

Flame Acceleration and DDT in a Torus Geometry
2017A series of combustion experiments in an optically transparent annular channel were carried out with hydrogenoxygen mixtures from 15 to 85 vol.% H2. The complex formed by an oblique shock wave and a subsonic deflagration, only recently observed by the authors in an annular channel is investigated.

Flame Acceleration in Reactive Gas Flows
2016The experimental conditions considered when the certain estimations of the character of the flow in the installation must be performed to exclude the factors, which should hinder obtaining the results required. The evidence are obtained for the occurrence of the ignition of diluted stoichiometric methane-oxygen mix (total pressure up to 200 Torr ...
