InAsSb Photodiode-Based Infrared Radiation Thermometer for the Investigation of Droplet Surface Temperature Dynamics Within an Enclosed Combustion Chamber

open access: yesSensors
This study presents a novel approach to analysing the early stages of the combustion process by measuring the surface temperature of a kerosene droplet from its point of ignition through to its evaporation.

Role of buoyancy-driven vortices in inducing different modes of coupled behaviour in candle-flame oscillators

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2019
We investigate the coupled behaviour of two oscillatory flames produced by separate bundles of candles, referred to as candle-flame oscillators, as the distance between them is varied.

Combustion Dynamics of Swirling Flame at Thermochemical Conversion of Biomass

open access: yesChemical Engineering Transactions, 2015
Development of the swirling flame dynamics at thermo chemical conversion of biomass (wood pellets) has been investigated experimentally at a low swirl number of the swirling flame flow (S < 0.6), different rates of biomass thermal decomposition and ...

Electrochemical Behavior of Flame‐Sprayed Sc‐Doped AlCoCrFeMo High‐Entropy Alloy Coatings in 3.5% Sodium Chloride Solution

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Scandium (Sc)‐doped AlCoCrFeMo HEA coatings are fabricated via flame spraying with 0.1, 0.3, and 0.5 wt% Sc additions. Among these, the HEA‐Sc0.3 coating exhibits the highest corrosion resistance, indicated by a more positive corrosion potential and lower current density.

Numerical Simulations of Forced Ignition and Flame Dynamics in an Ammonia/Air Mixing Layer

open access: yesEnergies
This work explores NH3/air non-premixed combustion in a mixing layer, with the objective of quantifying the influence of key parameters on ignition and flame dynamics. A series of two-dimensional simulations were conducted with forced ignition.

Electric Field-Induced Variations of Combustion Dynamics

open access: yesChemical Engineering Transactions, 2014
An experimental study of the electric field effect on combustion dynamics at thermo-chemical conversion of biomass pellets was carried out with the aim to determine the DC field effect on the processes of biomass gasification, combustion of volatiles ...

Design of Dome Structure for A Lean Premixed Swirled Combustor of Gas Turbine Based on the Numerical Method

open access: yes发电技术, 2023
To analyse the dome structure of the lean premixed swirled combustor, the influences of lance tip shapes, inflow air flow rates, numbers and locations of fuel nozzles and head expansion ratios on the combustion flame, flow field and flame dynamic ...

A Dislocation Perspective on Strength and Toughness in Ceramics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Dislocations in ceramics enjoy a long but yet under‐appreciated history. The three research waves for dislocations in ceramics highlight the topic evolution over the last 90 years. This review focuses on the impact of dislocation on strength and toughness in ceramics.

Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.

Development and Application of an Optoelectronic Sensor for Flame Monitoring of a Copper Concentrate Flash Burner

open access: yesSensors
A flash smelting furnace operation is based on the exothermic reduction of copper concentrates in the combustion shaft, and these reactions occur at high temperatures (1250–1350 °C), where flame control is fundamental to optimizing copper reduction ...
