Micro flame ionization detector and micro flame spectrometer
Sensors and Actuators B: Chemical, 2000Abstract In this paper we present a miniaturized flame ionization detector and flame spectrometer fabricated using conventional micromachining technologies. The main component of both devices is a micro burner unit, which uses minimal oxyhydrogen to produce a stable miniature flame.

Ionization of nitromethane in the flame ionization detector
Canadian Journal of Chemistry, 1981The mass spectra observed on sampling the unburnt gases of a flame ionization detector to which nitromethane has been added are due mostly to proton transfer reactions of NH4+ and H3O+. These are formed in the reaction zone from the primary ion HCO+, and pass through the unburnt gases to the sampling orifice.

Ionization in a methanol-oxygen flame
International Journal of Mass Spectrometry and Ion Physics, 1979Abstract The combustion of methanol was studied in a conical methanol—oxygen flame of fuel-lean composition (equivalence ratio φ = 0.25) burning at atmospheric pressure surrounded by a flowing argon shield. Oxygen bubbled through liquid methanol contained in two gas saturators provided a premixed flame of excellent stability and reproducibility.
