IMPACT OF STRETCH ON THE FLAME DYNAMICS OF LAMINAR PREMIXED FLAMES
Inter-Noise 2022, 2023Flame transfer functions (FTF) of laminar premixed flames acoustically forced are analytically investigated and modelled. The study is based on the linearized G-equation, which is used to kinematically track the flame front. In order to incorporate combustion properties, the laminar consumption speed is considered varying depending on the flame front ...

On the stability of stretched flames
Combustion Theory and Modelling, 1997It is shown that the well known difficulty concerning the unconditional stability of a planar flame sustained in a stagnation-point flow is due to the infinite aspect length scale of the system. In finite geometries occurring in numerical and laboratory experiments the flame may well become unstable provided the flow-induced stretch is weak enough.

Flame Stretch and the Balance Equation for the Flame Area
Combustion Science and Technology, 1990Abstract When a flame propagates in a nonuniform flow it experiences strain and curvature effects. The fractional rate of change of the flame area constitutes the flame stretch. This quantity is often used to describe the structure and extinction mechanisms of turbulent flames. It also occurs in many recent studies of premixed laminar flames.

Flame stretch effects on partially premixed flames
Combustion and Flame, 2000Abstract Flame stretch is an important characteristic of flame behavior that arises due to flow motion and nonuniformity, and flame curvature. Various investigators have obtained different expressions for flame stretch by employing dissimilar analytical approaches for diverse flame configurations.

Combustion Science and Technology, 1983
Abstract A general invariant expression is derived for the stretch experienced by a flame due either to its motion or to the nonuniform flow of the gas through it. This expression is given in terms of the local fluid velocity and the shape of the flame front. Specific examples in which the flame stretch takes a simplified form are discussed.

The effects of radiation on stretched flames
35th Aerospace Sciences Meeting and Exhibit, 1997We examine the behaviour of twin premixed flames in a symmetric counterflow, subject to radiation losses, a problem motivated by recent drop-tower experiments. A simple asymptotic strategy is adopted which complements recent numerical simulations and provides new insights.

The cylindrical stretched flame
Combustion and Flame, 1984For sufficiently cool remote gases, the cylindrical stretched flame shows classical ignition-extinction behavior. For remote gas temperatures close to the adiabatic flame temperature, the flame response is qualitatively different, with negative flame speed solutions which may be physically accessible.

Dioxin formation in stretched flames
Chemosphere, 1992Numerical simulations of stretched laminar twin premixed flames are carried out in order to understand the gasphase formation of dioxins in situations analogous to the post combustor and following regions of a typical incinerator. A previously developed chemical kinetic mechanism, that describes dioxin formation in terms of some generic species, is ...

Stretch and Curvature Effects on Flames
42nd AIAA Aerospace Sciences Meeting and Exhibit, 2004To understand how curvature affects the properties of stretched premixed flames including flame temperature, flame speed, and extinction, comparisons among the tubular premixed flame, the opposed jet flame and the one-dimensional planar flame are drawn physically, experimentally and numerically.

Symposium (International) on Combustion, 1989
Recent advances in the understanding of the structure, propagation, and extinction of laminar flames under the influence of stretch, as manifested by the existence of flame curvature, flow nonuniformity, and flame motion, are reviewed. The emphasis is on premixed flames because of the richness and subtlety of the phenomena involved.
