Homogeneity, Flatness and "Large" Extra Dimensions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
We consider a model in which the universe is the direct product of a (3+1)-dimensional Friedmann, Robertson-Walker (FRW) space and a compact hyperbolic manifold (CHM). Standard Model fields are confined to a point in the CHM (i.e. to a brane).

Flat building blocks for flat silicene [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
AbstractSilicene is the silicon equivalent of graphene, which is composed of a honeycomb carbon structure with one atom thickness and has attractive characteristics of a perfect two-dimensional π-conjugated sheet. However, unlike flat and highly stable graphene, silicene is relatively sticky and thus unstable due to its puckered or crinkled structure ...

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

RIPK4 function interferes with melanoma cell adhesion and metastasis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RIPK4 promotes melanoma growth and spread. RIPK4 levels increase as skin lesions progress to melanoma. CRISPR/Cas9‐mediated deletion of RIPK4 causes melanoma cells to form less compact spheroids, reduces their migratory and invasive abilities and limits tumour growth and dissemination in mouse models.

The Hitchin-Witten Connection and Complex Quantum Chern-Simons Theory [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We give a direct calculation of the curvature of the Hitchin connection, in geometric quantization on a symplectic manifold, using only differential geometric techniques.

Generating Functions for Coherent Intertwiners

open access: yes, 2012
We study generating functions for the scalar products of SU(2) coherent intertwiners, which can be interpreted as coherent spin network evaluations on a 2-vertex graph. We show that these generating functions are exactly summable for different choices of

Conformally Flat Manifolds [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 1972
This note describes some new examples of conformally flat manifolds, as a step toward a classification of such manifolds up to conformal equivalence.

Hands‐on protocol for preparing water‐soluble fractions from agri‐food samples for NMR‐based metabolomics analysis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This research protocol outlines a workflow for nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR)‐based metabolomics in the agri‐food sector. Using two case studies—strawberry leaves (solid matrix) and wine (liquid matrix)—it details the procedures for sample preparation, data acquisition, and processing.

Flatness testing over singular bases

open access: yes, 2013
We show that non-flatness of a morphism f of complex-analytic spaces with a locally irreducible target Y of dimension n manifests in the existence of vertical components in the n-fold fibred power of the pull-back of f to the desingularization of Y.

Signatures and flatness.

open access: yesJournal für die reine und angewandte Mathematik (Crelles Journal), 1993
Let \(Y\subset\mathbb{R}^ n\) be a codimension one analytic set, and fix a signature \(\sigma\) on \(\mathbb{R}^ n\backslash Y\) \((\sigma\) associates a \(\text{sign}+1\) or \(-1\) to each connected component of \(\mathbb{R}^ n\backslash Y)\). The signature \(\sigma\) is admissible at \(x\in Y\) when the germ \(\sigma_ x\) is induced by a germ of ...
