Monitoring of Water Quality for Reduced Water Use in a Partial Recirculating Aquaculture System

open access: yesAquaculture, Fish and Fisheries, Volume 5, Issue 3, June 2025.
ABSTRACT Partial recirculating aquaculture systems (PRASs) aim for combining the benefits of flow‐through systems (water use of approximately 50,000 L kg−1 feed) and recirculating aquaculture systems (RASs, 500–1000 L kg−1 feed). While water quality is usually excellent in flow‐through systems, large volumes of water of good quality are required.

Molecular identification of Flavobacterium psychrophilum and characterization of cutaneous alterations in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mikyss) from Puno, Peru

open access: yes, 2019
[EN] The aim of this study was to compare histological lesions of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mikyss) affected by the bacterial cold water disease (BCDW) with asymptomatic trout skin samples from fish farms in Lake Titicaca (Puno, Peru) and identify the ...

Stress Tolerance-Related Genetic Traits of Fish Pathogen Flavobacterium psychrophilum in a Mature Biofilm

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2018
Flavobacterium psychrophilum is the causative agent of bacterial cold-water disease and rainbow trout fry syndrome, and hence this bacterium is placed among the most important salmonid pathogens in the freshwater aquaculture industry.

Infection models with Flavobacterium psychrophilum

open access: yes, 2015
High mortalities among rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) fry are often the result of infections caused by Flavobacterium psychrophilum, and in Denmark this pathogen can be found in nearly all freshwater fish farms.
