Defining Roles in Pediatric Palliative Care: Perspectives From Oncology and Palliative Care Teams

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Early integration of pediatric palliative care (PPC) is associated with improved symptom management, quality of life, and healthcare utilization for children with cancer. Despite this, variation persists in how PPC is understood, operationalized, and integrated within pediatric oncology programs. In particular, ambiguity surrounding

The Production of Bioaroma by Auriporia aurulenta Using Agroindustrial Waste as a Substrate in Submerged Cultures

open access: yesFermentation, 2023
The present study was carried out to investigate the potential of the basidiomycete Auriporia aurulenta to metabolize residues remaining from the processing of umbu, cajá, plum, and persimmon fruits for the production of natural aroma compounds using ...

Skew-Flavored Dark Matter

open access: yes, 2016
We explore a novel flavor structure in the interactions of dark matter with the Standard Model. We consider theories in which both the dark matter candidate, and the particles that mediate its interactions with the Standard Model fields, carry flavor ...

New Mechanism of Flavor Symmetry Breaking from Supersymmetric Strong Dynamics [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
We present a class of supersymmetric models in which flavor symmetries are broken dynamically, by a set of composite flavon fields. The strong dynamics that is responsible for confinement in the flavor sector also drives flavor symmetry breaking vacuum ...

Decreased cold‐sensing function of the transient receptor potential channel TRPM8 from tailed amphibians

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Despite frogs avoiding low temperatures, examination of four salamander species revealed that none avoided cold and all possessed cold tolerance. Functional analysis of TRPM8, a cold sensor, showed that all salamander TRPM8s had lost their cold sensitivity.

The skills required for transition to university and study in biological sciences: A student perspective

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Bioscience students were asked for their opinions on the value and teaching of skills. 204 responded that teamwork, time management and study skills are necessary to reach University, that scientific writing, research, laboratory and presentation skills are taught effectively during their studies, while other skills are gained inherently through study ...

Flavor states of mixed neutrinos

open access: yes, 2007
By resorting to previous results on flavor mixing in Quantum Field Theory, we show how to consistently define flavor states of mixed neutrinos as eigenstates of the flavor charge operators.Comment: 4 pages, presented at 13th International Symposium on ...

Flavon exchange effects in models with abelian flavor symmetry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
In models with abelian flavor symmetry the small mixing angles and mass ratios of quarks and leptons are typically given by powers of small parameters characterizing the spontaneous breaking of flavor symmetry by "flavon" fields.

Why human connection is the true metric of research success

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Human‐centred mentorship can be shaped by mentor attributes, actions, intrinsic drive and career ambition. Drawing on reflections across Singapore and France, as well as workshop insights from FEBS‐IUBMB ENABLE 2024, this article shows that human‐centred mentorship creates the conditions for sustainable growth, well‐being and retention in research ...

Flavor without flavor symmetry reexamined [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review D, 2002
Non-trivial patterns of quark and lepton masses and mixings can arise without there being any underlying flavor symmetry that distinguishes among the three families. Two realistic examples are given.
