Virtual flavor: High-fidelity simulation of real flavor experiences [PDF]
Food and drink are key parts of our lives. While virtual reality has the potential to provide a high-fidelity simulation of real experiences in virtual worlds, the incorporation of flavor appreciation within these virtual experiences has largely been ...

Despite frogs avoiding low temperatures, examination of four salamander species revealed that none avoided cold and all possessed cold tolerance. Functional analysis of TRPM8, a cold sensor, showed that all salamander TRPM8s had lost their cold sensitivity.

Lepton flavor (universality) violation in rare kaon decays [PDF]
Recent anomalies in the decays of $B$-mesons and the Higgs boson provide hints towards lepton flavor (universality) violating physics beyond the Standard Model.

Assuming that the lepton, quark and Higgs fields belong to the three-dimensional reducible representation of the permutation group S_3, we suggest a minimal S_3 invariant extension of the standard model. We find that in the leptonic sector, the exact S_3 x Z_2 symmetry, which allows 6 real independent parameters with two CP-violating phases, is ...

Why human connection is the true metric of research success
Human‐centred mentorship can be shaped by mentor attributes, actions, intrinsic drive and career ambition. Drawing on reflections across Singapore and France, as well as workshop insights from FEBS‐IUBMB ENABLE 2024, this article shows that human‐centred mentorship creates the conditions for sustainable growth, well‐being and retention in research ...

Loss of AMBRA1 activates MAPK and angiogenesis signaling pathways in melanoma cells
Loss of AMBRA1 in melanoma cells activates multiple oncogenic pathways associated with tumor progression. Transcriptomic and protein network analyses revealed that AMBRA1 depletion enhances MAPK/ERK signaling, angiogenesis, TGF‐β/EMT signaling, and Wnt/axon guidance pathways.

Weak scale supersymmetry provides elegant solutions to many of the problems of the standard model, but it also generically gives rise to excessive flavor and CP violation. We show that if the mechanism that suppresses the Yukawa couplings also suppresses flavor changing interactions in the supersymmetry breaking parameters, essentially all the low ...
