BREEDING FOR RED FLESH COLOUR IN APPLE: PROGRESS AND CHALLENGES
Acta Horticulturae, 2009Abstract Novel fruit trait introgression is an important part of the HortResearch apple-breeding programme in developing new varieties with high consumer appeal, and red flesh apple breeding is a major component of this objective. Active red flesh breeding began in HortResearch in 1998 by crossing low quality red-fleshed accessions with high quality ...

Food Chemistry, 2013
The aim of this study was to determine the effect of different temperatures of blanching and pre-drying used in the laboratory production of dried potato dice on the content of glycoalkaloids in red and blue fleshed potato varieties. Studied potatoes of coloured fleshed varieties were characterised by a low glycoalkaloids content at 5.47 mg 100 g(-1 ...

Amino acid composition of flesh-coloured potatoes as affected by storage conditions
Food Chemistry, 2018The study determined nitrogen compounds and amino acid profile in dry matter of potatoes differing in flesh colour, stored at 2 °C and 5 °C for three and six months. With increased storage time, the total protein content and particularly amino acid content declined. The coagulable protein content increased at three months' storage by 25%.

Content of polyphenols in coloured and yellow fleshed potatoes during dices processing
Food Chemistry, 2014The purpose of the research was to examine the effect of the laboratory production of dried potato dice on the content of phenolic compounds in one yellow-fleshed potato variety and four blue-fleshed potatoes varieties. Coloured-flesh potato varieties were characterised by about three times higher amount of total phenolic content than traditional ...

WATERMELON LYCOPENE CONTENT CORRELATION WITH FLESH COLOUR AND GENETIC RESEARCH
Acta Horticulturae, 2010Lycopene content varied among 43 different flesh colour watermelon materials, from 0.0000 mg/100 g FW in G8 to 5.7536 mg/100 g FW in G4. To estimate the general combining ability (GCA), special combining ability (SCA) and heritability of watermelon lycopene the Griffing diallel cross design method 2 was used.

Pollen donor effects on the expression of red flesh colour in kiwifruit
Acta Horticulturae, 2018The choice of pollen donor may sometimes affect fruit characteristics of kiwifruit. In this study, flowers of a red-fleshed kiwifruit selection were hand-pollinated with pollen from males of diploid and tetraploid Actinidia chinensis var. chinensis and hexaploid A. chinensis var. deliciosa.
