Changes in Body Composition in Children and Young People Undergoing Treatment for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Ongoing evidence indicates increased risk of sarcopenic obesity among children and young people (CYP) with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), often beginning early in treatment, persisting into survivorship. This review evaluates current literature on body composition in CYP with ALL during and after treatment.

Patient‐Level Barriers and Facilitators to Inpatient Physical Therapy in Adolescents and Young Adults With a Hematological Malignancy: A Qualitative Study

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Despite their increased risk for functional impairment resulting from cancer and its treatments, few adolescents and young adults (AYAs) with a hematological malignancy receive the recommended or therapeutic dose of exercise per week during inpatient hospitalizations.

A Coupled Hydrodynamic–Structural Model for Flexible Interconnected Multiple Floating Bodies

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2023
Evaluating the structural safety and seakeeping performance of very large floating structures (VLFS) using the rigid module flexible connector (RMFC) method remains challenging due to the complexity of the coupled hydrodynamic–structural responses in ...

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Derivation of Equations for Flexible Multibody Systems in Terms of Quasi-Coordinates from the Extended Hamilton’s Principle

open access: yesShock and Vibration, 1993
Early derivations of the equations of motion for single rigid bodies, single flexible bodies, and flexible multibody systems in terms of quasi-coordinates have been carried out in two stages.

Improved Vibration Suppression Strategy of Fuzzy PI Servo Control for Dual Flexible System with Flexible Joints

open access: yesMathematics, 2023
A high performance manipulator servo drive system is a double flexible system with flexible joints and flexible loads. Flexible joints are composed of elastic connecting elements, and flexible loads are flexible Euler beams with elastic deformation.

The role and implications of mammalian cellular circadian entrainment

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
At their most fundamental level, mammalian circadian rhythms occur inside every individual cell. To tell the correct time, cells must align (or ‘entrain’) their circadian rhythm to the external environment. In this review, we highlight how cells entrain to the major circadian cues of light, feeding and temperature, and the implications this has for our

Wrinkling of a bilayer membrane [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The buckling of elastic bodies is a common phenomenon in the mechanics of solids. Wrinkling of membranes can often be interpreted as buckling under constraints that prohibit large amplitude deformation.

Fluttering of Flexible Bodies

open access: yesSen'i Kikai Gakkaishi (Journal of the Textile Machinery Society of Japan), 1973
In order to clarify the fluttering bahavior of flexible bodies in air streams, the wave form was assumed as y=ax sin (pt+qx), and from the principle of the energy conservation, p and q were determined asp=-0.415V√ (ρ/ρs) (b/l) (Cx+2k0)q=1.6911/lOn the other hand, fabric or film strips were observed in a vertical wind tunnel, and it was shown that the ...
