Flexibility of Data-Driven Process Structures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The coordination of complex process structures is a fundamental task for enterprises, such as in the automotive industry. Usually, such process structures consist of several (sub-)processes whose execution must be coordinated and synchronized. Effecting this manually is both ineffective and error-prone.

Flexible protein folding by ant colony optimization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Protein structure prediction is one of the most challenging topics in bioinformatics. As the protein structure is found to be closely related to its functions, predicting the folding structure of a protein to judge its functions is meaningful to the ...

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Casting behavior of the string structures considering axial elongation

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2019
A flexible string is used at various places. Typical examples are a cable for power transmission and communication and a wire for cranes and elevators. In addition, there are the uses such as a fly-fishing line, climbing rope and a mowing machine to cut ...

An investigation of sleeper voids using a flexible track model integrated with railway multi-body dynamics

open access: yes, 2009
This article describes a flexible track system model (FTSM) that represents the track structure for a typical ballasted track, taking into account the flexibility of the rails, the sleeper mass and the resilience of the pad/fastening elements, as well as

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

Variable stiffness element by granular jamming (Stiffness enhancement by a wrinkle-free outer membrane)

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2017
A flexible bag containing particles becomes rigid when the air inside the element is evacuated. Variable stiffness elements using granular jamming have been used for haptic displays and robotic orthoses helped by the soft and lightweight body.

Flexible Pipes: Slug Flow and Structure Coupling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
In this thesis, a computational scheme for coupled internal multiphase flow and structural dynamic of flexible pipes is presented and tested. The model consists of a 1D simulator based on a slug tracking model, and a 3D structural dynamic simulator based

Heterozygous loss‐of‐function alleles associate the conserved 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease EXOSC10 with hypersensitivity to the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
EXOSC10, an essential nuclear RNA exosome‐associated 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease, is inhibited by the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil (5‐FU), and EXOSC10 depletion increases 5‐FU sensitivity. The colon‐cancer variant EXOSC10S402T, located in a proteolysis motif, is stable and nuclear but nonfunctional in vivo.

Cost-performance enhancement of an active wheel damper for flexible structures by using the dynamic quantizer

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2016
This study develops a rotary-type active vibration control device (Active Wheel Damper, AWD) using a fly-wheel to control vibrations in flexible structures.
