Determining the transferability of flight simulator data [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper presented a method for collecting and graphically correlating subjective ratings and objective flight test data. The method enables flight-simulation engineers to enhance the simulator characterization of rotor craft flight in order to achieve

Monte-Carlo study of the MRPC prototype for the upgrade of BESIII

open access: yes, 2016
A GEANT4-based simulation is developed for the endcap time of flight (ETOF) upgrade based on multi-gap resistive plate chambers (MRPC) for the BESIII experiment. The MRPC prototype and the simulation method are described.

Use of high performance networks and supercomputers for real-time flight simulation [PDF]

open access: yes
In order to meet the stringent time-critical requirements for real-time man-in-the-loop flight simulation, computer processing operations must be consistent in processing time and be completed in as short a time as possible.

Role of the Recombination Zone in Organic Light‐Emitting Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This review summarizes the critical role of the recombination zone in organic light‐emitting diodes (OLEDs). We highlight that broadening the recombination zone in OLEDs based on emissive layers with balanced charge transport and high photoluminescence quantum yields provides a promising route toward achieving both long operational lifetime and high ...

Investigating the role of flight phase and task difficulty on low-time pilot performance, gaze dynamics and subjective situation awareness during simulated flight

open access: yesJournal of Eye Movement Research
Gaze behaviour has been used as a proxy for information processing capabilities that underlie complex skill performance in real-world domains such as aviation. These processes are highly influenced by task requirements, expertise and can provide insight

Breaking the 2‐nm Barrier in Hard Disk Drives Using Monolayer Amorphous Carbon Overcoats

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The rapid growth of AI has increased demand for large‐scale data storage, making HDDs indispensable in data centers. Increasing areal storage density is crucial, but limited by the traditional carbon overcoats (COC). Monolayer amorphous carbon (MAC) offers a superior alternative.

Application of technology developed for flight simulation at NASA. Langley Research Center [PDF]

open access: yes
In order to meet the stringent time-critical requirements for real-time man-in-the-loop flight simulation, computer processing operations including mathematical model computation and data input/output to the simulators must be deterministic and be ...

Two‐Photon 3D Printing of Functional Microstructures Inside Living Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates 3D printing inside living cells by using two‐photon photo‐lithography. A bio‐compatible photoresist is injected into cells and selectively polymerized with a femtosecond laser, creating custom‐shaped intracellular structures with submicron resolution.
