Formation of microfluidic droplets and jets in a solvent-rich oil phase

open access: yesFlow
We develop original flow-based methods to interrogate and manipulate out-of-equilibrium behaviour of ternary fluids systems at the small scale. In particular, we examine droplet and jet formation of ternary fluid systems in coaxial microchannels when an ...

The effect of tube diameter on vertical two-phase flow regimes in small tubes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Flow boiling flow patterns in four circular tubes with internal diameters of 1.10, 2.01, 2.88 and 4.26 mm were investigated in the present project. The experiments were conducted in vertical upward two-phase flow using R134a as the working fluid.

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Turbulent boundary layer development over an air cavity

open access: yesFlow
The turbulent boundary layer (TBL) development over an air cavity is experimentally studied using planar particle image velocimetry. The present flow, representative of those typically encountered in ship air lubrication, resembles the geometrical ...

Probabilistic Flow Regime Map Modeling of Two-Phase Flow [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The purpose of this investigation is to develop models for two-phase heat transfer, void fraction, and pressure drop, three key design parameters, in single, smooth, horizontal tubes using a common probabilistic two-phase flow regime basis ...

The neural crest‐associated gene ERRFI1 is involved in melanoma progression and resistance toward targeted therapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
ERRFI1, a neural crest (NC)‐associated gene, was upregulated in melanoma and negatively correlated with the expression of melanocytic differentiation markers and the susceptibility of melanoma cells toward BRAF inhibitors (BRAFi). Knocking down ERRFI1 significantly increased the sensitivity of melanoma cells to BRAFi.

In vitro models of cancer‐associated fibroblast heterogeneity uncover subtype‐specific effects of CRISPR perturbations

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Development of therapies targeting cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) necessitates preclinical model systems that faithfully represent CAF–tumor biology. We established an in vitro coculture system of patient‐derived pancreatic CAFs and tumor cell lines and demonstrated its recapitulation of primary CAF–tumor biology with single‐cell transcriptomics ...

Gravure printing with a shear-rate-dependent ink

open access: yesFlow
Gravure printing is a type of printing method that uses metal cylinders with engraved cells that hold ink. The ink is transferred directly to the paper or other material by pressing it against the cylinder.

Tame flows

open access: yesMemoirs of the American Mathematical Society, 2010
The tame flows are ``nice'' flows on ``nice'' spaces. The nice (tame) sets are the pfaffian sets introduced by Khovanski, and a flow $ : \mathbb{R}\times X\to X$ on pfaffian set $X$ is tame if the graph of $ $ is a pfaffian subset of $\mathbb{R}\times X\times X$. Any compact tame set admits plenty tame flows.

Dual targeting of RET and SRC synergizes in RET fusion‐positive cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Despite the strong activity of selective RET tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), resistance of RET fusion‐positive (RET+) lung cancer and thyroid cancer frequently occurs and is mainly driven by RET‐independent bypass mechanisms. Son et al. show that SRC TKIs significantly inhibit PAK and AKT survival signaling and enhance the efficacy of RET TKIs in ...
