Probe measures characteristics of hot gas stream [PDF]

open access: yes, 1965
Shielded, tubular flow calorimeter operated by valve position measures characteristics of a hot gas stream of unknown composition. Measurements of mass flow density and total heat content per unit mass, total heat content per unit mass only, and pitot ...

On the Existence of Shocks in Irradiated Exoplanetary Atmospheres

open access: yes, 2012
Supersonic flows are expected to exist in the atmospheres of irradiated exoplanets, but the question of whether shocks develop lingers. Specifically, it reduces to whether continuous flow in a closed loop may become supersonic and if some portions of the

Mesogranular structure in a hydrodynamical simulation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We analyse mesogranular flow patterns in a three-dimensional hydrodynamical simulation of solar surface convection in order to determine its characteristics.

Measurements of flow characteristics in a confined vortex flow

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, 1977
AbstractA study of air flow patterns by hot‐wire anemometry is reported for a vortex chamber consisting of an upper cylindrical section 122 cm in diameter and 61 cm high and a conical bottom section 122 cm high. Quantitative data are presented for flow angles, profiles of mean tangential and axial velocities, and radial distributions of tangential and ...

Study of Rainfall Impacts on Freeway Traffic Flow Characteristics

open access: yes, 2017
Compared with normal weather, the traffic flow characteristics changed under the condition of adverse weather, which accounted for the difference of driving behavior.

Effects of the Fluid Replacement Method During Online Hemodiafiltration on the Solute Removal Performance and Biocompatibility Using the Asymmetric Cellulose Triacetate Membrane

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Pre‐dilution online hemodiafiltration (Pre‐HDF) is predominantly used in Japan, whereas post‐dilution online HDF (Post‐HDF) is more common in Europe. An asymmetric cellulose triacetate (ATA) membrane may improve biocompatibility.

Experimental and analytical dynamic flow characteristics of an axial-flow fan from an air cushion landing system model [PDF]

open access: yes
An investigation was conducted to compare the steady-state and dynamic flow characteristics of an axial-flow fan which had been used previously as the air supply fan for some model air cushion landing system studies.

Study of Gas Flow Characteristics in Tight Porous Media with a Microscale Lattice Boltzmann Model

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2016
To investigate the gas flow characteristics in tight porous media, a microscale lattice Boltzmann (LB) model with the regularization procedure is firstly adopted to simulate gas flow in three-dimensional (3D) digital rocks.

Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.
