Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Development of an automated identification system for nano-crystal encoded microspheres in flow cytometry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Quantum dot encoded microspheres (QDEMs) offer much potential for bead based identification of a variety of biomolecules via flow cytometry (FCM). To date, QDEM subpopulation classification from FCM has required significant instrument modification or ...

DNA content analysis of colorectal cancer defines a distinct ‘microsatellite and chromosome stable’ group but does not predict response to radiotherapy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Colorectal cancers (CRC) are thought to have genetic instability in the form of either microsatellite instability (MSI) or chromosomal instability (CIN).

Long‐term hippocampal alterations and cognitive impairment in a murine model of surgical sepsis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Using a mouse model of surgical sepsis, we tested long‐term memory and analyzed the transcriptome of single cells isolated from the hippocampus. Survivor mice showed worse memory, loss of certain brain cell subpopulations, and abnormal immune cell activity—suggesting that post‐sepsis brain alterations may be linked to cognitive deficits.

Flow cytometric analysis of the oxidative status in human peripheral blood mononuclear cells of workers exposed to welding fumes

open access: yes, 2010
Flow cytometry is a simple analytical technique that identifies, counts, and characterizes cells. The oxidative status of cells is influenced by many exogenous sources, such as occupational exposure to welding fumes.

CD39/CD73-mediated immunosuppression and tumor aggressiveness in bladder cancer

open access: yesCancer Immunology, Immunotherapy
Urothelial bladder cancer (BCa) is marked by high recurrence and mortality, and the efficacy of PD-1/PD-L1 immunotherapy remains limited because of immune evasion.
