Experimental Analysis of the Influence of Gear Design and Catch Weight on the Fluid–Structure Interaction of a Flexible Codend Structure Used in Trawl Fisheries

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2023
This study evaluated the behavior of different codend designs to provide the basic information that is relevant for improving the gear selectivity, energy efficiency, to better understand the fish behavior inside the codend, and prevent the probability ...

Flow behaviour of dielectric liquids in an electric field [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
A family of 10 silicone oils with electrical conductivity similar to 10(-13) S m(-1) (a regime hitherto systematically unexplored) and viscosities ranging from 1 to 2000mPas have been Subjected to an electrical field of up to 1.5kV mm(-1) during flow ...

Multiple ETS family transcription factors bind mutant p53 via distinct interaction regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mutant p53 gain‐of‐function is thought to be mediated by interaction with other transcription factors. We identify multiple ETS transcription factors that can bind mutant p53 and found that this interaction can be promoted by a PXXPP motif. ETS proteins that strongly bound mutant p53 were upregulated in ovarian cancer compared to ETS proteins that ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Impact of the gap distance between two adjacent external windshields of a high-speed train on surrounding flow characteristics: an IDDES study

open access: yesEngineering Applications of Computational Fluid Mechanics, 2022
The external windshield is a key component in high-speed trains for drag reduction. However, the installation gap between external windshields, which is intended for improving curve-passing ability, could lead to strong aerodynamic instability in train ...

Influence of the Polarity of the Electric Field on Electrorheometry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Uniaxial extensional flow is a canonical flow typically used in rheological characterization to provide complementary information to that obtained by imposing simple shear flow.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

The effect of activity-related meridional flow modulation on the strength of the solar polar magnetic field

open access: yes, 2010
We studied the effect of the perturbation of the meridional flow in the activity belts detected by local helioseismology on the development and strength of the surface magnetic field at the polar caps. We carried out simulations of synthetic solar cycles

On Renormalization Group Flows and Polymer Algebras [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
In this talk methods for a rigorous control of the renormalization group (RG) flow of field theories are discussed. The RG equations involve the flow of an infinite number of local partition functions.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...
