Stress concentrations induced by flow

Cardiovascular Research, 1972
Flow through gelatin-agar tubes produced birefringence at local concentrations of mechanical stresses. The number of fringes varied with stream velocity. Stresses were maximal at valve roots, the downstream ends of stenoses, and on the inner walls of the test channels. The method facilitates the study of wall stress.
