The solar dynamic radiator with a historical perspective [PDF]

open access: yes
A historical perspective on pumped-fluid loop space radiators provides a basis for the design of the Space Station Solar Dynamic (SD) power module radiator.

Extended Klein-Gordon Action, Gravity and Non-Relativistic Fluid

open access: yes, 2005
We consider a scalar field action for which the Lagrangian density is a power of the massless Klein-Gordon Lagrangian. The coupling of gravity to this matter action is considered.

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Three-stage sorption type cryogenic refrigeration systems and methods employing heat regeneration [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
A three-stage sorption type cryogenic refrigeration system, each stage containing a fluid having a respectively different boiling point, is presented. Each stage includes a compressor in which a respective fluid is heated to be placed in a high pressure ...

The skills required for transition to university and study in biological sciences: A student perspective

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Bioscience students were asked for their opinions on the value and teaching of skills. 204 responded that teamwork, time management and study skills are necessary to reach University, that scientific writing, research, laboratory and presentation skills are taught effectively during their studies, while other skills are gained inherently through study ...

Mass spectrometry based identification of AMP‐O‐Tris generated by Thermococcus onnurineus Cas10

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Isolated Thermococcus onnurineus Cas10 generates the noncanonical ATP‐derived product AMP‐O‐Tris while in Tris‐containing buffer as identified via mass spectrometry, revealing relaxed nucleophile selectivity under isolated conditions. These findings suggest that multiprotein Csm complex assembly restricts Cas10 reactivity toward canonical cyclic ...

A Physics-Guided Hybrid Network for Robust Hydrodynamic Parameter Identification of UUVs Under Lumped Disturbances

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
Accurate identification of hydrodynamic parameters is essential for high-fidelity modeling and control of unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs). Compared with towing tank experiments and computational fluid dynamics simulations, system identification based

Why human connection is the true metric of research success

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Human‐centred mentorship can be shaped by mentor attributes, actions, intrinsic drive and career ambition. Drawing on reflections across Singapore and France, as well as workshop insights from FEBS‐IUBMB ENABLE 2024, this article shows that human‐centred mentorship creates the conditions for sustainable growth, well‐being and retention in research ...

Integrated MADM of low-carbon structural design for high-end equipment based on attribute reduction considering incomplete interval uncertainties

open access: yesScientific Reports
With the increasingly severe energy supply and environmental pressures, high-end equipment is gradually adopted to reduce the carbon emissions of manufacturing industry which makes its low-carbon structural design a critical research hotspot.
