Fluid queue driven by anM/M/1 queue
A fluid queue receiving its input from the output of a preceding M/M/1 queue is considered. The input can be characterized as a Markov modulated rate process and the well known spectral decomposition technique can be applied. The novel features in this system relate to the nature of the spectrum, which is shown to be composed of a continuous part and ...

Approximating the heterogeneous fluid queue with a birth-death fluid queue
IEEE Transactions on Communications, 1995Recent research has shown that fluid-flow queueing models accurately determine the burst level component of the ATM multiplexer process, and fluid models therefore constitute an efficient tool for the investigation of admission control in ATM networks.

Fluid queues to solve jump processes [PDF]
We consider systems which exhibit a mixture of smooth behavior and occasional jumps, controlled by continuous-time Markovian processes on a finite state space, and we call these fluid queues with jumps, thereby emphasizing the fact that they constitute a generalization of fluid queues. We characterize their stationary distribution in an algorithmically

Decomposition properties in fluid queues
Performance Evaluation, 2008We discover two decomposition properties in certain fluid queues. In a queue fed by burst flows, the impact of flow dynamics over shorter timescales on the mean buffer length can be separated from the impact of flow dynamics over larger timescales. A queue with multiple inputs can be decomposed into multiple simpler queues and the two systems have the ...

A fluid queue modulated by two independent birth–death processes [PDF]
We present a fluid queue model driven by two independent finite state birth–death processes with the objective to study the buffer occupancy distribution in any intermediate node in a communication network.

Invariant Measures for Fluid Queues
Stochastic Models, 2008Positive recurrent fluid queues have a matrix-exponential stationary distribution. We show here that a transient or a null recurrent fluid queue also has a matrix-exponential invariant measure, which is not summable. We give a construction for this measure and we give the probabilistic interpretation for the key matrix that appears in the construction.
