Polyene dyes and fluorochromes

2020
Polyene dyes and fluorochromes contain linked methine groups forming a chain of trans-oriented conjugated carbon-carbon double bonds, as shown below in structure a. In the naturally occurring carotenoids these are lipophilic alicyclic or aliphatic groups (as in lycopene) or hydrophilic groups such as hydroxy or carboxyl (as in crocetin).

Neutral Red as a Lipid Fluorochrome

Stain Technology, 1970
Aqueous 0.1% neutral red adjusted to pH 6.5, or mixed 1:1 with seawater, produced conspicuous fluorescence in plant and animal fats while acting as a conventional stain for acidic groups including volutin. The water-soluble, nonfluorescent dye predominating in acid solutions became deprotonized, lipophilic and fluorescent under neutral and alkaline ...

Fluorochrome Choices for Flow Cytometry

2018
Multicolor flow cytometry requires thorough knowledge not only of your proteins of interest, but also of the corresponding fluorochromes that will be used in your panel. Not all fluorochromes are bright, some are prone to photobleaching, and others are sensitive to fixation and permeabilization.

[Antineoplastic drugs used as fluorochromes].

Revista espanola de oncologia, 1985
Several synthetic imide derivatives of naphthalic acid that bind to DNA and have anti-neoplastic properties are studied here in relation to the fluorescence they produce in the chromatin of chicken nucleated red blood cells.
