Trackable Tolerogenic Macrophages Integrate PD‐L1 and Rapamycin Signaling to Suppress Alloimmune Responses in Transplantation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We developed a macrophage‐based therapeutic platform, termed trackable tolerogenic macrophages (TTM), for dual‐function immunomodulation and visualization in vivo. TTM cells were engineered to overexpress PD‐L1, incorporate bioorthogonal cell surface tags, and load rapamycin for sustained release.

A field-deployable and handheld fluorometer for environmental water quality monitoring

open access: yesMicro and Nano Systems Letters, 2018
This work reports the development of a field-deployable and fully handheld fluorometer for environmental water monitoring. Our developed fluorimeter can detect both green algae and cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) while simultaneously differentiating and

Pancancer Fine‐Mapping of Mutational Intolerance Identifies CHEK1 as an Immunosuppressive Driver in Lung Adenocarcinoma

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies mutation‐intolerant genes (MIGs), which are mutationally constrained in tumors despite normal‐tissue variability. Using miDriver, the authors pinpoint MIGs essential for tumor‐intrinsic fitness and immune evasion. Focusing on CHEK1, they show it drives tumor fitness and sculpts an immunosuppressive niche via the MIF–CD74 axis ...

Portable Aptasensor Based on Parallel Rolling Circle Amplification for Tumor‐Derived Exosomes Liquid Biopsy

open access: yesAdvanced Science
Here, a separation‐free and label‐free portable aptasensor is developed for rapid and sensitive analysis of tumor‐derived exosomes (TEXs). It integrated a parallel rolling circle amplification (RCA) reaction, selective binding of metal ions or small ...

New approaches to the measurement of chlorophyll, related pigments and productivity in the sea [PDF]

open access: yes
In the 1984 SBIR Call for Proposals, NASA solicited new methods to measure primary production and chlorophyll in the ocean. Biospherical Instruments Inc. responded to this call with a proposal first to study a variety of approaches to this problem.

ZSL Orchestrates Synaptonemal Complex Assembly as a Central Region Scaffold to Ensure Synapsis Fidelity and Crossover Control in Polyploid Meiosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A central molecular adaptor, ZSL, is identified that links transverse filaments ZYP1 to central element SCEP1/2 to drive synaptonemal complex assembly in Brassica napus. Loss of ZSL abolishes synaptonemal complex formation, disrupts meiotic chromosome segregation, and markedly increases crossovers, providing mechanistic insight into meiotic fidelity ...

Development of a Cone Penetrometer for Measuring Spectral Characteristics of Soils in Situ [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
A patent was recently granted to the U.S. Army for an adaptation of a soil cone penetrometer that can be used to measure the spectral characteristics (fluorescence or reflectance) of soils adjacent to the penetrometer rod. The system can use a variety of

A next-generation sequencing approach to identify gene mutations in early-and late-onset hypertrophic cardiomyopathy patients of an Italian cohort [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Sequencing of sarcomere protein genes in patients fulfilling the clinical diagnostic criteria for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) identifies a disease-causing mutation in 35% to 60% of cases.
