The insulinotropic effect of fluoroquinolones [PDF]

open access: yesBiochemical Pharmacology, 2009
Antimicrobial fluoroquinolones induce, with strongly varying frequency, life-threatening hypoglycemias, which is explained by their ability to block K(ATP) channels in pancreatic B-cells and thus to initiate insulin secretion. In apparent contradiction to this, we observed that none of the fluoroquinolones in this study (gatifloxacin, moxifloxacin ...

A Photothermal‐Photocatalytic Textile With Efficient Thermal Management for Boosting Ciprofloxacin Purification

open access: yesAggregate, EarlyView.
A photothermal‐photocatalytic textile with carbon fiber felts decorated with TiO₂ films is proposed to purify ciprofloxacin (CIP) in water. It shows high solar absorption and efficient water evaporation. The local thermal effect can effectively enhance the catalytic degradation.

Cardiac toxicity of fluoroquinolones and bedaquiline

open access: yesТуберкулез и болезни лёгких, 2019
The review analyzes data on the impact of fluoroquinolones and bedaquiline on the cardiac conduction system. The dependence of the cardiotoxic effect of fluoroquinolones on their influence on the potassium channels of cardiomyocytes is presented.

Patients at Risk for Aortic Rupture Often Exposed to Fluoroquinolones during Hospitalization

open access: yesAntimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, 2018
Several studies have indicated that fluoroquinolone use may be associated with an increased risk of aortic aneurysm or dissection (AAD). Because patients with AAD or Marfan syndrome are at increased risk for aortic rupture, we performed a retrospective ...
