Dinucleoside polyphosphates : newly detected uraemic compounds with an impact on leucocyte oxidative burst [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Background. Dinucleoside polyphosphates (NpnN) have pathophysiologic roles in cardiovascular disease and are newly detected uraemic retention solutes. They were retrieved in human plasma, tissues and cells.

A pharmacological cocktail for arresting actin dynamics in living cells. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The actin cytoskeleton is regulated by factors that influence polymer assembly, disassembly, and network rearrangement. Drugs that inhibit these events have been used to test the role of actin dynamics in a wide range of cellular processes.

Group V Phospholipase A2 Induces Leukotriene Biosynthesis in Human Neutrophils through the Activation of Group IVA Phospholipase A2 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
We reported previously that exogenously added human group V phospholipase A2 (hVPLA2) could elicit leukotriene B4 (LTB4) biosynthesis in human neutrophils (Han, S. K., Kim, K. P., Koduri, R., Bittova, L., Munoz, N. M., Leff, A. R., Wilton, D. C., Gelb, M.

Functional Multi-Layer Perceptron: a Nonlinear Tool for Functional Data Analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
In this paper, we study a natural extension of Multi-Layer Perceptrons (MLP) to functional inputs. We show that fundamental results for classical MLP can be extended to functional MLP.

Tumor necrosis factor-alpha and FMLP receptors are functionally linked during FMLP-stimulated activation of adherent human neutrophils [PDF]

open access: yesBlood, 1996
Human peripheral blood neutrophils (PMN) plated onto fibrinogen and activated with FMLP release H2O2 and lactoferrin, a specific granule component, with parallel kinetics. Although tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF alpha) only primes PMN in suspension, it is a potent agonist of adherent PMN.

Structural optimization and biological evaluation of 2-substituted 5-hydroxyindole-3-carboxylates as potent inhibitors of human 5-lipoxygenase. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Pharmacological suppression of leukotriene biosynthesis by inhibitors of 5-lipoxygenase (5-LO) is a strategy to intervene with inflammatory and allergic disorders.

hPepT1 mediates bacterial tripeptide fMLP uptake in human monocytes [PDF]

open access: yesLaboratory Investigation, 2006
Here, we examined hPepT1 expression in the monocytic cell line, KG-1. Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) analysis revealed that hPepT1 is expressed in KG-1 cells, while cDNA cloning and direct sequencing confirmed the sequence of KG-1 hPepT1 (accession number, AY634368).

Interaction of the Xanthine Nucleotide Binding Goα Mutant with G Protein-coupled Receptors [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
We constructed a double mutant version of the α subunit of Go that was regulated by xanthine nucleotides instead of guanine nucleotides (GoαX). We investigated the interaction between GoαX and G protein-coupled receptors in vitro.

Countergradients of Nonchemotactic Ligands for N-Formylmethionylleucylphenylalanine (FMLP) Receptors Promote FMLP-Induced Chemotaxis

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1986
Using the under-agarose chemotaxis assay, addition of compounds known to inhibit chemotaxis of leukocytes toward N-f-Met-Leu-Phe (FMLP) was made to the first well in a line of three wells, leukocytes to the middle well, and a slight excess of FMLP to the third well.

The role of the neutrophil and formed elements of the blood in an in vitro model of reperfusion injury

open access: yesMediators of Inflammation, 1993
Using The globally ischaemic isolated guinea-pig heart we conducted studies to assess the role of activated neutrophils (PMNs) and the role of the endothelium in reperfusion injury.
