The cerebroprotection and prospects of FNDC5/irisin in stroke

Neuropharmacology
Stroke, the leading cause of disability and cognitive impairment, is also the second leading cause of death worldwide. The drugs with multi-targeted brain cytoprotective effects are increasingly being advocated for the treatment of stroke. Irisin, a newly discovered myokine produced by cleavage of fibronectin type III domain 5, has been shown to ...

Cleavage of FNDC5 and insights into its maturation process

Molecular and Cellular Endocrinology, 2020
FNDC5 corresponds to an irisin precursor that increases with exercise. Studies suggest that irisin mediates beneficial effects in adipose tissues, skeletal muscle, bone, and brain. However, the cleavage and maturation processes of FNDC5 have not been clearly identified.

FNDC5/Irisin inhibits pathological cardiac hypertrophy

Clinical Science, 2019
Abstract Cardiac hypertrophy is a common pathophysiological process in various cardiovascular diseases, which still has no effective therapies. Irisin is a novel myokine mainly secreted by skeletal muscle and is believed to be involved in the regulation of energy metabolism.

[Diagnostic value of FNDC5 in patients with subclinical diabetic cardiomyopathy].

Zhonghua xin xue guan bing za zhi, 2021
Objective: To estimate the diagnostic value of fibronectin type Ⅲ-domain containing protein 5 (FNDC5) in subclinical diabetic cardiomyopathy. Methods: A total of 94 patients with type 2 diabetes (T2DM), who were hospitalized from April 2018 to June 2019 in the Third Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University, were enrolled in this study.
