Identification and immunophenotype of abnormal cells present in focal cortical dysplasia type IIb
Background Focal cortical dysplasias (FCDs) are malformations of cortical development that present cortical dyslamination and abnormal cell morphology and are frequently associated with refractory epilepsy.

Amygdala enlargement associated with remote epileptogenic lesions
Abstract Objective To determine the prevalence and possible causes of amygdala enlargement in patients with drug‐resistant temporal lobe epilepsy. Methods Patients were retrospectively identified via a radiology information system and a large language model.

Abstract Objective Cryptogenic new onset refractory status epilepticus (cNORSE) carries high risks of long‐term disability and post‐NORSE epilepsy, but mechanisms remain unclear. We aimed to assess the predictive value of inflammatory and brain injury biomarkers and determine whether immune disturbances persist in the chronic phase. Methods We enrolled

The etiology of focal cortical dysplasia (FCD) is not fully understood. Here authors generate an mTORC1 overactivation mouse model that recapitulates hallmarks of type II FCDs, including spontaneous seizures, and suggest that neuronal defects, rather ...

Focal cortical dysplasia: pathophysiological approach
Clinical and experimental studies on focal cortical dysplasia (FCD) were carried out.For the experimental study, an experimental FCD model of rats was developed. Twenty Wistar rats at 0-2 days after birth were used for the study. Kainic acid (KA) solution was injected stereotaxically into medial and lateral sites of the sensori-motor cortex.

Abstract Objective Drug‐resistant epilepsy (DRE) affects approximately one‐third of patients with epilepsy. The molecular heterogeneity underlying DRE remains poorly defined, largely due to limited access to resected brain tissue and substantial genetic diversity.

We examined the functional relationship between large‐scale δ‐band phase synchrony and local epileptogenic β–γ‐band amplitude bistability during NREM sleep. Increased synchrony and strong bistability characterized the epileptogenic zone, with strongest effects during N2 sleep, when seizures most frequently occur.
