GELASTIC SEIZURES

open access: yesЭпилепсия и пароксизмальные состояния, 2016
: gelastic seizures are focal epileptic seizures that involve sudden outbursts of forced laughter. In our study Gelastic seizures were revealed in 25 patients that comprised 1,98% of all epilepsy events with onset under 18 years of age (n=1261).

Phosphoinositides and inositol phosphates as molecular glues

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol phosphates (IPs) and phosphoinositides (PIPs) regulate diverse eukaryotic processes. Beyond recruiting signaling proteins or acting as structural cofactors, recent studies suggest they mediate protein–protein interactions as natural molecular glues.

Focal nonconvulsive seizures during detoxification for benzodiazepine abuse.

open access: yes, 2012
Chronic benzodiazepine (BDZ) abuse is currently treated with detoxification using a low-dose flumazenil infusion, a relatively recently developed and promising procedure.

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Imaging haemodynamic changes related to seizures: comparison of EEG-based general linear model, independent component analysis of fMRI and intracranial EEG

open access: yes, 2010
Background: Simultaneous EEG-fMRI can reveal haemodynamic changes associated with epileptic activity which may contribute to understanding seizure onset and propagation. Methods: Nine of 83 patients with focal epilepsy undergoing pre-surgical evaluation

One‐year seizure freedom and quality of life in patients with drug‐resistant epilepsy receiving adjunctive vagus nerve stimulation in Japan

open access: yesEpilepsia Open
Objective Amount of seizure‐free days is a critical determinant of quality of life (QoL) in patients with drug‐resistant epilepsy (DRE). The fractions of patients experiencing prolonged periods of seizure freedom with adjunctive vagus nerve stimulation ...

Unusual seizure evolution: Focal-general-focal-general

open access: yesEpilepsy & Behavior Case Reports, 2018
Seizure types have been described that do not conform to traditional classification schemes. We present another unusual type characterized by focal onset with secondary generalization, that is followed immediately by continued focal activity that generalizes again without an intervening break.

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

Genetic (idiopathic) epilepsy with photosensitive seizures includes features of both focal and generalized seizures

open access: yes, 2018
Clinically, some patients having genetic (idiopathic) epilepsy with photosensitive seizures were difficult to be diagnosed. We aimed to discuss whether the genetic (idiopathic) epilepsy with photosensitive seizures is a focal entity, a generalized entity

The role of miR‐335‐5p in the redifferentiation of BRAF p.V600E thyroid cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The BRAF p.V600E mutation promotes thyroid cancer dedifferentiation and radioiodine resistance. Using a network approach, we identified miR‐335‐5p as a key regulator of BRAF‐mutated thyroid tumors. Restoring miR‐335‐5p increased thyroid‐specific gene expression and iodine uptake in cells and organoids.
