Neurophysiological Muscle Activation Scheme for Controlling Vocal Fold Models [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Neural Systems and Rehabilitation Engineering, 2019
A physiologically-based scheme that incorporates inherent neurological fluctuations in the activation of intrinsic laryngeal muscles into a lumped-element vocal fold model is proposed. Herein, muscles are activated through a combination of neural firing rate and recruitment of additional motor units, both of which have stochastic components.

Determination of the structure of $^{31}$Ne by full-microscopic framework

open access: yes, 2011
We perform the first quantitative analysis of the reaction cross sections of $^{28-32}$Ne by $^{12}$C at 240 MeV/nucleon, using the double-folding model (DFM) with the Melbourne $g$-matrix and the deformed projectile density calculated by the ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Lead the folding motion of the thick origami model under gravity

open access: yesJournal of Asian Architecture and Building Engineering, 2023
Origami have been focused on by the researchers for its foldability and deployability owing to the huge potential in architectural engineering. However, origami was rarely used in practical construction projects as structures due to the lack of ...

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Theoretical research on dynamic modeling of rigid–flexible coupling system with double joint folded wing

open access: yesAIP Advances
For meeting the requirements of tactical missiles seeking miniaturized launch devices for storage, transportation, and launch, a tube-launched missile wing is adopted, which folds before launch and quickly unfolds after launch.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).
