Dietary Protein Intake and Peritoneal Protein Losses in Peritoneal Dialysis Patients

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients lose protein in their waste dialysate, potentially increasing their risk for malnutrition. We wished to determine whether there was any association between losses and dietary protein intake (DPI). Methods DPI was assessed from 24‐h dietary recall using Nutrics software.

Development of Bioactive Carboxymethyl Cellulose-Based Films via Dual Crosslinking with Citric Acid and X-Ray Irradiation

open access: yesFoods
This study developed biodegradable carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) films crosslinked with citric acid (CA) and X-ray irradiation as sustainable packaging alternatives to reduce plastic use. CMC/CA films were subjected to three doses of X-ray irradiation at

A Phase I, Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled, Single Ascending Dose, Multiple Ascending Dose and Food Effect Study to Evaluate the Tolerance, Pharmacokinetics of Jaktinib, a New Selective Janus Kinase Inhibitor in Healthy Chinese Volunteers

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2020
Background: Jaktinib is a novel selective janus kinase 1/2 inhibitor. The phase I first-in-human study evaluated the tolerance and pharmacokinetics of jaktinib in healthy Chinese subjects. Methods: A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study were

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Glycoprotein Non‐Metastatic Melanoma Protein B (GPNMB): A Translational Pharmacodynamic Biomarker for PIKfyve Inhibition With VRG50635

open access: yesClinical and Translational Science
Glycoprotein non‐metastatic melanoma protein B (GPNMB) was investigated as a pharmacodynamic (PD) biomarker for PIKfyve inhibition across translational studies ex vivo, in vitro, in animals, and in the clinic, demonstrating significant response to ...

Food-induced behavioral sensitization, its cross-sensitization to cocaine and morphine, pharmacological blockade, and effect on food intake [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Repeated administration of abused drugs sensitizes their stimulant effects and results in a drug-paired environment eliciting conditioned activity. We tested whether food induces similar effects.
