Quality Production of Sainfoin Swards Challenged by Global Change in Mountain Areas in the Western Mediterranean

open access: yesAgronomy, 2023
Legume-based livestock forage systems are widespread and socially relevant agroecosystems that are essential for delivering high-quality forage. Therefore, it is critical to determine how climate change and management might affect the functioning of ...

Forage Nutritive Value as Affected by Fertilizer Application

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science, 1961
Summary The digestibility of orchardgrass was determined as affected by fertilizer application. Results showed that under favorable conditions, digestibility, as well as dry matter and energy yields of forage, can be significantly increased by the use of fertilizer.

Productivity and nutritive value of Tifton 85 bermudagrass inoculated with Azospirillum brasilense in association with nitrogen fertilization

open access: yesRevista Ceres, 2023
Tifton 85 bermudagrass has been widely used in tropical and subtropical regions. Owing to its high forage yield, the fertilizer requirement of Tifton 85 is also high.

Seeding Rate Effects on Smooth Bromegrass (Bromus inermis Leyss.) Interseeded with Annual Warm-Season Grasses

open access: yesAgronomy
Interseeding pastures with annual warm-season grasses may increase forage accumulation and nutritive value. Our objective was to evaluate the effects of seeding rates of crabgrass [Digitaria ischaemum (Schreb.) Schreb.

The carbohydrate composition and nutritive value of forages

open access: yesAgricultural and Food Science, 1977
The carbohydrates of forages, their digestibility, the relationship between composition and the development stage in grasses and legumes, and the dependence of nutritive value on composition are examined.

The effect of leaching on the nutritive value of forage plants

open access: yesHilgardia, 1931
Abstract does not appear. First page follows. Introduction A significant decrease in digestibility of bur clover after exposure to sunlight and rain has been reported in the first paper and evidence was presented which indicated that the greater part of the decrease could be accounted for by the loss of soluble ...

Modelling responses of forages to climate change with a focus on nutritive value [PDF]

open access: yesAdvances in Animal Biosciences, 2016
European livestock agriculture is extraordinarily diverse, and so are the challenges it faces. This diversity has contributed to the development of a fragmented set of research communities. As a result, livestock research is often under-represented at policy level, despite its high relevance for the environment and food security.

Whole-crop cereals in dairy production [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The four studies summarised and discussed in this thesis evaluate the use of whole-crop cereal silage (WCCS) for cattle in dairy production. The dry matter (DM) yield, chemical composition, digestibility, feed intake and milk production for WCCS were ...

Nutritional Evaluation of Non Forage High Fibrous Tropical Feeds for Ruminant Using In Vitro Gas Production Technique

open access: yesWalailak Journal of Science and Technology, 2011
Six non forage high fibrous tropical feedstuffs were used to evaluate their nutritive value using an in vitro gas production technique. The rumen mixed microbe inoculums were taken from 2 fistulated Brahman-Thai native crossbred steers.

THE USE OF PRIN IPAL COMPONENT ANALYSIS IN IDENTIFYING AND INTEGRATING VARIABLES RELATED TO FORAGE QUALITY AND METHANE PRODU TION [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
This research was aimed to explore the use of multivariate statistics i.e.principal component analysis (PCA)in identifying and integrating variables related to forage quality and ruminal methane production, and in classifying forage species into both ...
