Exploitation of Modal Superposition Toward Forced Vibration Localization in a Coupled Symmetric Oscillator Array [PDF]

open access: yesSensors
In transducer arrays, symmetric grouping of identical elements is often employed to achieve uniform array performance. Such arrays can possess high coupling, preventing localized operation of individual transducers.

Piezoelectric-Based Vibration Energy-Harvesting for Bladed Disks: Modeling and Comparative Performance Analysis of Interface Circuits [PDF]

open access: yesSensors
Focusing on the self-powering demand of aircraft engine bladed disks (blisks), this paper investigates piezoelectric vibration energy-harvesting modeling and non-linear circuit performance. A multi-sector electromechanical coupled model is established to

Plasmonic Spherical Heterodimers: Reversal of Optical Binding Force Based on the Forced Breaking of Symmetry [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2018
The stimulating connection between the reversal of near-field plasmonic binding force and the role of symmetry-breaking has not been investigated comprehensively in the literature.

Forced symmetry-breaking via boundary conditions [PDF]

open access: yesNonlinear Analysis: Theory, Methods & Applications, 2001
We study impact of a forced symmetry-breaking in boundary conditions on the bifurcation scenario of a semilinear elliptic partial differential equation. We show that for the square domain the orthogonality of eigenfunctions of the Laplacian may compensate partially the loss of symmetries in the boundary conditions and allows some solution to have more ...

Abstract Forced Symmetry Breaking and Forced Frequency Locking of Modulated Waves

open access: yesJournal of Differential Equations, 1998

Forced symmetry breaking of homoclinic cycles in a PDE with O(2) symmetry

open access: yesJournal of Computational and Applied Mathematics, 1996
This paper concerns a numerical study of solutions near homoclinic orbits for forced symmetry breaking of a partial differential equation (PDE) with O(2) symmetry to one with SO(2) symmetry. The authors concentrate on the Kuramoto-Sivashinsky equation with spatially periodic boundary conditions.

Singularity theory and forced symmetry breaking in equations [PDF]

open access: yesPublicacions Matemàtiques, 2010
A theory of bifurcation equivalence for forced symmetry breaking bifurcation problems is developed. We classify (O(2), 1) problems of corank 2 of low codimension and discuss examples of bifurcation problems leading to such symmetry breaking.

Ising superconductivity induced from spin-selective valley symmetry breaking in twisted trilayer graphene

open access: yesNature Communications, 2023
We show that the e-e interaction induces a strong breakdown of valley symmetry for each spin channel in twisted trilayer graphene, leading to a ground state where the two spin projections have opposite sign of the valley symmetry breaking order parameter.

Topological transitions in arrays of dipoles coupled to a cavity waveguide

open access: yesPhysical Review Research, 2022
Topological valley-Hall edge states have been realized in a variety of photonic structures across the electromagnetic spectrum because they can be easily engineered by breaking certain lattice symmetries.

Spontaneous symmetry breaking and superposition of states in systems with dynamic chaos

open access: yesPhysics of Complex Systems, 2021
The article discusses one of the typical problems described by the equations of nonlinear dynamics—forced oscillations in a system with W-potential. It focuses, in particular, on chaotic oscillations in the presence of dissipation. In this case the state
