Formalizing ICD coding rules using Formal Concept Analysis

open access: yesJournal of Biomedical Informatics, 2009
With the 11th revision of the International Classification of Disease (ICD) being officially launched by the World Health Organization (WHO), the significance of a formal representation for ICD coding rules has emerged as a pragmatic concern. To explore the role of Formal Concept Analysis (FCA) on examining ICD10 coding rules and to develop FCA-based ...

LDAcoop: Integrating non‐linear population dynamics into the analysis of clonogenic growth in vitro

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Limiting dilution assays (LDAs) quantify clonogenic growth by seeding serial dilutions of cells and scoring wells for colony formation. The fraction of negative wells is plotted against cells seeded and analyzed using the non‐linear modeling of LDAcoop.

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.

Recurrent cancer‐associated ERBB4 mutations are transforming and confer resistance to targeted therapies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that the majority of the 18 analyzed recurrent cancer‐associated ERBB4 mutations are transforming. The most potent mutations are activating, co‐operate with other ERBB receptors, and are sensitive to pan‐ERBB inhibitors. Activating ERBB4 mutations also promote therapy resistance in EGFR‐mutant lung cancer.

Text Adaptation Using Formal Concept Analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
This paper addresses the issue of adapting cases represented by plain text with the help of formal concept analysis and natural language processing technologies. The actual cases represent recipes in which we classify ingredients according to culinary techniques applied to them. The complex nature of linguistic anaphoras in recipe texts make usual text

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Formal Concept Analysis of Programming Operation Using Tangible Tool

open access: yesSICE Journal of Control, Measurement, and System Integration, 2017
This paper describes the structural analysis of the programming operation of the tangible programming tool P-CUBE, which is a tangible block-type programming tool that was developed for use by beginners, including those with visual impairments.

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

Formal Concept Analysis and Resolution in Algebraic Domains

open access: yes, 2003
We relate two formerly independent areas: Formal concept analysis and logic of domains. We will establish a correspondene between contextual attribute logic on formal contexts resp. concept lattices and a clausal logic on coherent algebraic cpos. We show
