Histamine formation in flying fish contaminated with Staphylococcus xylosus

open access: yesInternational Aquatic Research, 2016
Histamine is the main causative agent of scombroid poisoning. However, unlike scombroid fish, histamine poisoning due to consumption of flying fish has never been reported.

Nonsingular Fast Terminal Adaptive Neuro-sliding Mode Control for Spacecraft Formation Flying Systems

open access: yesComplexity, 2020
In this paper, a nonsingular fast terminal adaptive neurosliding mode control for spacecraft formation flying systems is investigated. First, a supertwisting disturbance observer is employed to estimate external disturbances in the system. Second, a fast

Animation of Flocks Flying in Line Formations [PDF]

open access: yesArtificial Life, 2011
We provide a biologically motivated technique for modeling and animating bird flocks in flight, which produces plausible and realistic-looking flock animations. While most previous approaches have focused on animating cluster formations, this article introduces a technique for animating flocks that fly in certain patterns, so-called line formations. We

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Fuelless On-Orbit Assembly of a Large Space Truss Structure Using Repulsion of the Service Spacecraft by Robotic Manipulators

open access: yesAerospace
A servicing spacecraft motion control approach for the problem of on-orbit truss structure assembly is developed in this paper. It is considered that a cargo container with a rod set and servicing spacecraft are in orbit initially. The assembly procedure

Iterative learning-based formation control for multiple quadrotor unmanned aerial vehicles

open access: yesInternational Journal of Advanced Robotic Systems, 2020
A double-layer formation control is proposed to solve the repeated tasks for multiple quadrotor unmanned aerial vehicle systems. The first layer aims at achieving a formation target in which the iterative learning control is designed based on relative ...

Perspectives in educating molecular pathologists on liquid biopsy: Toward integrative, equitable, and decentralized precision oncology

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Liquid biopsy enables minimally invasive, real‐time molecular profiling through analysis of circulating biomarkers in biological fluids. This Perspective highlights the importance of training pathologists through integrative educational programs, such as the European Masters in Molecular Pathology, to ensure effective and equitable implementation of ...
