1-Tb/s WDM-OFDM-PON System With Subband Access Scheme and Flexible Subcarrier-Level Bandwidth Allocation

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2013
A novel subband access scheme for multiband high-speed orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) passive optical network (PON) is proposed, where the granularity of the bandwidth allocation is as small as the bandwidth of just one subcarrier and ...

A generalized Caroli formula for transmission coefficient with lead-lead coupling

open access: yes, 2012
We present a generalized transmission coefficient formula for the lead-junction-lead system, in which interaction between the leads has been taken into account.

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Graphene-Based Saturable Absorber for Single-Longitudinal-Mode Operation of Highly Doped Erbium-Doped Fiber Laser

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2012
In this paper, a conventional wavelength band (C-band) fiber laser with a tunable single-longitudinal-mode (SLM) output using multilayer graphene as a saturable absorber is demonstrated. The proposed fiber laser uses a short length of highly doped erbium-

Some recent advances in ab initio calculations of nonradiative decay rates of point defects in semiconductors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
In this short review, we discuss a few recent advances in calculating the nonradiative decay rates for point defects in semiconductors. We briefly review the debates and connections of using different formalisms to calculate the multi-phonon processes ...

Colorectal cancer‐derived FGF19 is a metabolically active serum biomarker that exerts enteroendocrine effects on mouse liver

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Meta‐transcriptome analysis identified FGF19 as a peptide enteroendocrine hormone associated with colorectal cancer prognosis. In vivo xenograft models showed release of FGF19 into the blood at levels that correlated with tumor volumes. Tumoral‐FGF19 altered murine liver metabolism through FGFR4, thereby reducing bile acid synthesis and increasing ...

The Input Power Dynamic Range of a Semiconductor Optical Amplifier and Its Relevance for Access Network Applications

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2011
The input power dynamic range (IPDR) of a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) gives the input power range within which an SOA can be operated error free.

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Identification of Malaria-Infected Red Blood Cells Via Digital Shearing Interferometry and Statistical Inference

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2013
Malaria is one of the most widespread diseases, particularly in Asia and Africa. Correct diagnosis of malaria is necessary for its proper treatment. A compact automated tool for malaria identification will greatly benefit healthcare professionals in ...

Tube Formula, Berezinizans and Dwork Formula [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We consider an example of tubes of hypersurfaces in Euclidean space and generalise the tube formula to supercase. By this we assign to a point of the hypersurface in superspace a rational characteristic function. Does this rational function appear when we calculate the zeta-function of an arithmetic variety?
