The Importance of Spatial Autocorrelation for Regional Employment Growth in Germany [PDF]

open access: yes
In analyzing the disparities of the regional developments in the volume of employment in Germany, in the recent empirical literature so called shift-share-regression-models are frequently applied.

Bioinspired Bromination Enables Extensible, Strain‐Stiffening Resilin Peptide Scaffolds with Tunable Degradation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bioinspired bromination of a resilin‐derived peptide enables the fabrication of electrospun nanofibrous scaffolds that uniquely combine strain‐stiffening elasticity, proteolytic stability, and antioxidant functionality. These brominated peptide–gelatin hybrids mimic the extensibility of natural elastomers, demonstrating tunable mechanical resilience ...

Amorphous shear band formation in crystalline Si-anodes governs lithiation and capacity fading in Li-ion batteries

open access: yesCommunications Materials
The cycling stability of Li-ion batteries is commonly attributed to the formation of the solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) layer, which is generated on the active material surface during electrochemical reactions in battery operation.

Sick Pay Provision in Experimental Labor Markets [PDF]

open access: yes
Sick pay is a common provision in most labor contracts. This paper employs an experimental gift-exchange environment to explore two related questions using both managers and undergraduates as subjects.

High‐Yield Synthesis of Fe‐NC Electrocatalysts Using Mg2+ Templating and Schiff‐Base Porous Organic Polymers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Fe─NC porous oxygen reduction electrocatalysts are prepared employing a 2,4,6‐Triaminopyrimidine‐based porous organic polymer, a Mg2+ Lewis acid, and a low‐temperature cation exchange protocol. Using the polymer precursor achieves high pyrolysis yields and results in atomically dispersed FeNx sites. The resulting catalysts feature hierarchical porosity

Decomposing the impact of population growth on environmental deterioration: some critical comments on a widespread method in ecological economics [PDF]

open access: yes
The IPAT-model developed by Ehrlich and Holdren is widespread in ecological economics in order to quantify the impact of population growth on environmental deterioration.

‘Oxygen Bound to Magnesium’ as High Voltage Redox Center Causes Sloping of the Potential Profile in Mg‐Doped Layered Oxides for Na‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Na‐ion batteries ‐ Impact of doping on the oxygen redox: The sloping potential of NaMg0.1Ni0.4Mn0.5O2 above 4.0 V is caused by a new redox center (arising from the ‘O bound to Mg’), having a higher potential but being more irreversible compared to the ‘O bound to Ni’.

Ab initio framework for deciphering trade-off relationships in multi-component alloys

open access: yesnpj Computational Materials
While first-principles methods have been successfully applied to characterize individual properties of multi-principal element alloys (MPEA), their use in searching for optimal trade-offs between competing properties is hampered by high computational ...

How to be an Ecological Economist [PDF]

open access: yes
To answer the question "How to be an Ecological Economist", we must start by defining the field of Ecological Economics. Mainstream Economics altogether lacks the concepts required to deal adequately with nature, justice and time.
