Biophysical approaches for studying viral entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Viruses infect all living organisms and have been responsible for major epidemics and pandemics. Their ongoing evolutionary battle with host defenses creates a constant need for improved tools to study viral behavior. Advancing methods to probe viral attachment, fusion, and genome release deepen our understanding of how infections begin and support the

The human gut microbiome across the life course

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Despite significant individual variation and continuous change throughout life, the human gut microbiome follows some life stage‐specific trends. This article provides a brief overview of how gut microbiome composition shifts across different phases of life. Created in BioRender. Özkurt, E. (2026) https://BioRender.com/8q4nrnc.

Harmonizing Scale for Intelligent Sensors: Resolution-Conditioned Adaptation of Vision Foundation Models for Crowd Counting

open access: yesSensors
Scale variation remains a fundamental challenge for intelligent surveillance sensors in crowd-counting and localization tasks. While recent selective inheritance methods have shown promise through multi-resolution feature fusion, they typically rely on ...

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Toward unsupervised building extraction from very high-resolution remote sensing images using SAM and CLIP

open access: yesGIScience & Remote Sensing
Building extraction has become a cornerstone for accurately assessing climate change, urban development, and human activities. The substantial variability in imaging conditions and building appearances poses a significant challenge to precise building ...

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Zero-shot instance segmentation for plant phenotyping in vertical farming with foundation models and VC-NMS

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
IntroductionImage instance segmentation is essential for plant phenotyping in vertical farms, yet the diversity of plant types and limited annotated image data constrain the performance of traditional supervised techniques. These challenges necessitate a

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.
