Foundations of phase-space quantum mechanics

International Journal of Theoretical Physics, 1984
Can one reexpress quantum-mechanical mean values as classical averages over phase-space distribution functions? Due to Wigner, such distribution functions, in general, cannot be non-negative. The ''stochastic phase space scheme'' is based on the observation that the concept of the ordinary phase space, as consisting of sharp points, is meaningless from

Phase Transitions: Foundations of Behavior

1990
Synergetic phase transitions afford a special window into the principles of behavior at several levels of desciption. The reason is that instabilities serve to demarcate behavioral patterns, thereby allowing a precise identification of collective variables or order parameters for patterns and their (nonlinear) dynamics.

Mathematical foundations of phase-contrast computed tomography

2000 IEEE Nuclear Science Symposium. Conference Record (Cat. No.00CH37149), 2002
Gabor's idea of in-line holography, which was proposed in 1948, has recently found application in phase-contrast imaging with X-rays. In particular, third generation synchrotron radiation sources make it possible to detect weak perturbations of X-ray wavefronts arising due to variations of the index of refraction in the investigated medium.

Two-phase emission detectors: foundations and applications

IEEE Transactions on Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation, 2006
A new class of radiation detectors has recently been introduced into experimental practice. The detectors employ the effect of effective extraction of charge carriers from condensed non-polar dielectrics into the equilibrium gas phase under influence of an applied electric field.

Teaching Literacy through Dramatic Storytelling in Foundation Phase

Australasian Journal of Early Childhood, 2016
LITERACY IS A CRUCIAL ASPECT to consider in Foundation Phase as it impacts learner performance not only in the area of language learning, but also in other learning areas taught at school. When teaching learners at Foundation Phase level it is imperative to use a teaching strategy that can optimise the language proficiency of the learners.

A Foundation for Systems Anthropometry. Phase II.

1978
This report describes the experimental procedures utilized at Highway Safety Research Institute and The Civil Aeromedical Institute in an investigation of the landmarks, axes systems, and joint properties necessary to describe the human body in three-dimensional space.

Unified Phase-Geometric Theory (UPGT): Foundations

This paper presents a unified physical framework based on SU(2) phase geometry on a compact three-sphere.It shows how quantum, relativistic, and classical physics emerge from the curvature and dynamics of a single phase field. The model reproduces electromagnetic and gravitational behavior as geometric limits and forms the foundation for atomic, nuclear,

Foundation Phase teachers: The ‘battle’ to teach reading

Journal for Language Teaching, 2011
There is evidence that learners attending South African schools have reading problems. This article is an attempt to gain insight into some of the possible reasons why learners in Grades 1 to 3 fail to become proficient readers. Research was conducted in the province of Gauteng with Grade 1 to 3 teachers at 11 schools. During this mixed method research
