Four-Wave-Mixing (FWM), or sometimes four-photon-mixing (FPM), describes a nonlinear optical effect at which four waves or photons interact with each other due to the third order nonlinearity of the material. As a result, new waves with sum and difference frequencies are generated during the propagation in the waveguide.

Four wave mixing with matter waves
2011I discuss analogs of four wave mixing and parametric downconversion experiments with deBroglie waves. We are able to demonstrate the production of atoms in correlated pairs. I will discuss prospects for using such systems to investigate entanglement of well separated atoms.
